The trip lever drain stopper in our master bathroom was not working. In the course of fixing it I disassembled the pvc drain. I tested when back together and it was not leaking. My wife took a bath and it leaked on our kitchen ceiling when she drained the tub. Does anyone have a rough idea what a drywall repair company would charge to rip out and replace an approximately 2x2 foot section of damaged kitchen ceiling?
Not a clue on cost but doesn't sound like a very easy fix once you factor in plastic wrapping everything in the kitchen before any cut into the drywall can be made. Gotta be a half day job if they don't have to come back the next day to finish mud.
Ask for referrals for someone reliable. It may be able to be fixed without replacing the affected area, just matching up the texture, which is the hard part IMO. The issue I see is if the drywall would need cutting out past the crown molding. Most sheetrockers have tricks to avoid such a situation. Just be sure the leak is fixed.
You might be able to scrape loose compound/plaster and match texture with spackle etc. Kilz is perfect and I was going to suggest it til I saw the pic.
Bummer! We have textured ceilings and I have had not so great outcomes trying to patch in. I really dislike them because of it. Incase you haven't used Kilz, it will put off a pretty strong odor for quite a while. Like if your planning on having guests in next few days it will be noticeable. (last time I read the label it stated, not for indoor use…)
Did I read that correctly? You fixed the drain and then it leaked? l'd fix the drain issue before attempting any drywall/painting repair.
The leak could be coming from the overflow gasket, if she fills the tub to the point of overflow . a very common source of tub leaks.
