Created by NOAA's Climate Prediction Center, the latest outlook anticipates warmer-than-average temperatures for much of the contiguous U.S., although southern states will most likely experience a drier and warmer winter than usual. I’m sure we’ll all see the dreaded vortex from time to time, but I’ll take “warmer than normal” in terms of firewood consumption.
I figure this is a lot like the flu vaccine. Every year, about half way through the flu season, the CDC says that they made the vaccine based on the wrong strain of flu virus.
Supposed to be average for both temps and wetness in NH. However that jet stream sitting on top of us can really mess with prognostication - the state is small so the jet stream just needs to move a few miles to completely flip the script. When it sits right on top of us, it is anyone's guess as to what will actually happen. The whole state is in drought so we need lots of rain before the ground freezes (not all at once, please Mother Nature), and a nice deep snow for the spring thaw.
