Echo gets corraled into the 'also ran' category by most. They go in the 'always runs' category for me. So long as Japanese manufacturing remains 'conservative' I will be a fan.
Agreed. I'll take a bit slower but uber reliable echo, real Japanese made redmax or shindiawa over all others specifically for the reason you mention. I'm not racing nore am I earning a living with a saw so squeezing every last second off a cut is not as high on my priority list as reliable starting / operating. Don't get me wrong, I do enjoy a nice l, fast cutting ported saw but I still care less if another brand of the same cc class is faster if ported.

Shindiawa is owned by echo and are basically red echo saws now. They are made here or Japan. Redmax is still being made in Japan under its original name of Zenoah. ゼノア｜チェンソー、草刈機などの農林、造園機器メーカー After Husqvarna purchased them for their strato technology they slowly phased out Redmax over here. Redmax was what Zenoah decided to name the North American side of the company. My Redmax gz4350 has a made in Japan serial plate on it as did my Husqvarna 543xp, which is a Redmax gz4350 in Husqvarna colors.
Komatsu Subsidiary I think? Zenoah. They should market 'Komatsu' Chainsaws. Their livery colors would look good on a saw.
I did a muffler mod on the one I had. I ended up selling it to my neighbor. He's in his early 70's and loves it. He never touches his Husqvarna 460 rancher now.
I have 2 Echo saws 590 and a 490. Most folks here where i live wont give Echo the time of day. Great saws, but i wish they would update the air filters on the 60cc saws to the style on the 7310. I have a Red Beard filter on the 590, huge improvement over stock.

Thats one reason I sold my CS-4010 and bought a used and new in box CS-400. They have that sweet filter setup.
I enjoy running a smaller saw than a big one myself. After a full day bucking with my 70-80cc saws the 201 & 241 were a welcomed relief at my recent apple cuts. Plus my tight shoulder is starting to bother me. Cut safe and hoard on Reloader !
I find myself going for the smaller ported saws the last few years. The 372 is great for bigger wood where you can let it eat, but you spend too much time holding it in smaller wood. That’s where the zippy <50cc saws are really nice. I love my ported 350.
