Burning wet logs releases humidity into the living area? Ummm.... I'm pretty sure that's not the case unless there's no pipe up and out.

    Balderdash!!

I'm going with this response. I cannot figure out how steam would make it though the sealed door of my stove insert and into the house. Sure, the air in the house is dry, but I've never felt a moisture increase when we've had to burn damp wood (which now is never because of, you know, Three Year Plan!).

Also, I guess the writer of the article doesn't have to worry about creosote for some reason. Hmmm...

None of the links work now. I think I read enough from the comments to get what they were talking about, but that doesn't mean there's any logic in that thinking.

I also found it is more energy efficient to bring in snow and put it in a pot on the stove so when it melts it releases humidity into the room. Filling the pot with water takes more energy since the water is more dense and will take longer to boil and turn to steam.
    LOL

You could also empty a bag of mulch in the stove and not only raise the humidity in the house but make it smell like cedar too.

Oh yeah, could put potpourri in the stove for a household air freshener.

The guy being nuts is not weird considering he's breathing CO and smoke all night long:)

I think the piece is a joke. Or serious, to weed out some genetic makeup out of the genepool...

some people up the road swear by this method to hold a fire all night, that thing really puts out the smoke, I can smell it almost 1/2 a mile away. when they cleaned the chim-lee they got two 5 gallon buckets of creosote out of it.
