Nice! Not sure of your temps but if it's not too cold, get a good wiff of that split stack. Apple smells fantastic. I used to have basement full after basement full. Glad you didn't find metal.

Ill be going back. If you want a hand glad to help.

I got a pretty good system down. Prune, buck, stage rounds, repeat. Plenty of room to drive through the rows. Mud may pose a problem if it thaws/rains.

I sniffed a couple splits and didn't notice much of a smell. Ill keep a nose out as it dries.

Second load today. 241 & 194 tag teamed again. Some ice this morning kinda changed and delayed my plans. Sun came out, temp went up so I hit it a bit later. Warm enough to turn the frozen ground into banana peel mud plus the rotten apples were like stepping in dog poop! :picard: Todays load took longer than yesterday. Ill split it tomorrow. May get more next week. DSCF0410.JPG DSCF0409.JPG

As I was splitting today and filling up a feed bag with the shards I got a good aroma from it.

I saved several 55gal barrels of chips from a huge apple tree we processed years ago. After chipping the limbs and branches, I sent the chips through my Tomahawk shredder, spread them on my blacktop driveway for several days in the summer sun to dry, and made some amazing stuff for smoker use, tried to sell it for 5 bucks a bagful and got very few takers. Wasn't worth the hassle. I still have a 55 gallon plastic barrel full of those chips stashed in my garage for my own personal use and give to any friends that need it.

Yeah I imagine it would be that way. Reason I have minimum three bundles when picked up here.

I saved chips and little scraps when I processed some a couple months back for our use.

Split everything today. DSCF0421.JPG DSCF0422.JPG Some just too gnarly to split DSCF0420.JPG Bucked the skinnies with the battery saw. DSCF0424.JPG Seeing the profit upside to apple I'll be hitting the orchard again real soon. I've had a few inquiries for it in volume. Hey WinonaRail c'mon over and cut a load for yourself! :saw: :tree:

Nice work. Are you primed for only one more trip or are you going ballistic while the getting's good?

Ill be making a few more trips. I have a decent system in place to cut and load. I figure the pay rate will be a lot better on this than general cordage wood. Its not that much more work either.

    When you headed there?

You wont need the 395! :saw: :D

Maybe later this week; I'll shoot you a text the day beforehand.
Now that you have hydraulics it makes sense to hoard it. None of the apple trees I've cut (4 or 5) split easy. That's good you've got a market for it. I don't burn the apple I hoard anymore, for heat anyway. It all goes to my uncle who cooks his Thanksgiving turkey outdoors with it.

    Sounds like a plan.

I have a market for bundles, not volume, but have had inquiries for volume on FBM. I figure 1/8 or 1/4 cords would sell.

I should be focused on my other wood inventory as I'm way behind on bundle wood restocking. Im actually cutting red oak tomorrow!

More stacking yesterday and today. Filled a half cord rack. Saved the nicest splits for bundles in a separate stack (not too many of those) and started filling another rack when rain started. Maybe 2-3 wheelbarrows full left. DSCF0439.JPG
Probably headed back in the next 2-3 days for more.

Nice to be able to do that without combating snow!

It sure is. Have yet to have any measurable snow in my part of the state. Ill work on firewood when there is snow cover. Usually I'll tarp rounds or splits to keep them dry.
