Took down a good sized Ash today. Emerald Ash Borer kill. Quite a bit of limb wood for my stove and the trunk will be split up in large chunks for Dad’s boiler. Had dad pull it out on flatter ground for cutting after he fed the cows their hay.
We have quite a few dead ones to clean out. They make great firewood! I have noticed some of the smaller, young trees still alive and doing well. The borer apparently left them alone.
That's what they do when the eab gets em...shoot out new braches down low where it's not dead yet...I took one down a couple years ago now just like that (maybe worse!) I think most of it has been converted to heat molecules already
Right, I've noticed that on the trunks I have cut. But those are it's last dying attempt at life-sending out those hopeful little green sprouts from the trunk. Much like a willow after it's been cut but not realizing it is dead yet! I was talking about the large branches. The good ones for any kid that climbs trees!
The EAB will come for them all but you can treat the trees if you wish. A drenched or two a year with Imidachloprid (sp) is pretty successful as are ACECAP tree implants.
