23/73 now. Teens overnight. Black Locust and Elm on deck

 

30* and damp out. loaded up with oak when I got home from son's bowling match and getting a tree. Snow suppose to start early tomorrow morning. Going to sit out the snow in deer stand.

 

I like any conifer for easy starting and coal burning down fires. There's quite a few balsam fir trees around here.

 

Yeah Doug does rock! We have lots of it here. I try to fill my stacks with fir and larch as they are the most plentiful higher btu softwoods in our area. When I drop a fir or larch I unzip the trunk with my saw and do my best to leave as much bark in the bush as I can. I dropped this doug fir right before it started snowing a few weeks ago. The bark wasn't that thick but you can see I probably didnt need to unzip it as it was already pretty loose. As a side note the moisture content on this guy was mostly 10%-15% and some higher up was even lower so Ill burn this tree this year.

 

With temps getting a bit colder, I decided it was time to set the furnace thermostat to kick the furnace on if the house gets cold overnight.

 

High( twenties yesterday, today, an$ tomorrow. We hav3 a light snow shower now and into the early hours. I was out this afternoon until dusk css around my maple tops. Split a rick of stackable rounds, and have my Bannon trailer loaded with uglies. Have enough to get by until i have time to hit it again.

19°/71°. Box elder and crabapple loaded onto a big ol bed of honey locust coals.

 

30/72. Wintery snow/slush mix going on outside. Ground is barely white. Burning oak.

 

32/72 Wintery mix as well but more rain than anything so far. The air certainly has a winter bite to it today, pine and sassafras load before leaving for work.

 

We got a couple more inches of snow last night. 24 and breezy.

The boiler burned an alarming amount of wood last night. I'm guessing the garage zone kicked on...it really eats the wood when that happens. Loading it with 100% walnut didn't help either. I'll be glad when that stuff is gone.

I emptied a pallet this morning...will try to get out there this evening and bring another one up. Ground should be plenty frozen for the tractor now.

 

30/73 Honey locust. Supposed to get to mid/upper 40's today.

 

5/75 It is dipping near zero and highs touching 20. Supposed to drop below zero this week. Burning a mix of oak and other hardwoods. I have some doug fir to buzz up that should be pretty dry, but I have to get some other stuff done first.

We got about 6” of snow over the weekend, and it flurries almost every night because we have an ethanol plant right down the road. It does it during the day too, just not as much. It wasn’t like that before they built the plant. It’s a pain in the butt when you have to clean the car windows and walkway every morning.

 

21 F here. 77 F in the casa. It’s snowing hard. I’ll definitely have to plow tomorrow.
