Kubotas at play. Er, I mean work!

Did a little tractor work for a friend Thursday morning...
He had a fence that caught fire and burned some sections. He wanted the old posts and concrete pulled up...the Catawba grapple and L4802 were up to the task...
He is going to build a shed in this area, so we also used the Woodland Mills 24Pro stump grinder and cleaned up 4 stumps too.

 

Yeah people here call them that, I also like calling them poverty sticks. Since you can cut them all day, make very little progress, and have not much to show for it. They will burn, and I’m not picky about firewood, so in the stacks they go.

Spent a couple hours this afternoon and finished chipping brush. Had errands and appointments this morning, so another day half wrecked. Need to get the saw back down there and start in on cutting some of the better trees. All of the exposed dirt is covered in wood chips now. I’ll get another picture of the trail without the tractor blocking it at some point. So far only found one small soft spot that has appeared, will lug some dirt to fill it in as well.

Man, I would love to have a 3-point stump grinder. I have over half a dozen large diameter oak stumps from the trees that were felled near the house last year. I need to get a job quote to see if it's more feasible to just but my own. Some of these companies can get over $400 per stump for large hardwood stumps. I'd have to rig up a camera to make it easier since I have a cab tractor.

 

I'm beginning to really like it, took a minute to get used to using it, never ran anything like it before.

If I hadn't bought the new splitter, I'd be tempted. Will have to wait until next year if I get one (stumps will be buried in snow soon anyway so out of sight, out of mind).

 

I understand, we went to the Paul Bunyan Show this year. They had a 15% show discount going on, more than covered shipping cost. Our son has quite a few stumps on his 5 acres, we have some on our place, and another friend that we are cutting a lot of pines for will need stump work in the front yard...

That's an option I'll have to look into as well and then compare the three price points (hiring/renting/owning).

 

Glad to hear it, it’s a very useful tool, it takes a bit to get used to. Finding the sweet spot for speed and depth makes a world of difference on amount of time for grinding a stump.

I found mine lightly used on Craigslist for $1500, it look brand new. I had to drive 4 hours to get it as well. There’s deals to be had, just have to keep an eye out.
