That's a pretty accurate description.

 

I noticed a stack of pallets and other various items in front of a business over the weekend so I went last night to see what I could find. I snagged four pallets and found a fairly nice wheelbarrow as well. I grabbed those and then got some pallets from another business that often has plenty available. I have a few projects in mind.

Nice grab. Pallets always come in handy around the wood yard.

 

I don't scrounge that often anymore but I try to grab the blue pallets when I get a chance.

 

I've got a Napa, a grain elevator, and a grocery store, with basically an unlimited supply of pallets, and the heavy duty blue ones are about unobtanium. I do get lucky every now and again and one gets let go and I end up with it.

 

I have learned that termites love the blue hd pallets. Ffs they will turn them into a pile of nails in 2yrs or less. They get rebuilt over and over, so they are loaded with nails. I’m currently looking for more plastic pallets.

 

The place I’ve gotten free plastic ones at, several times, now wants $4ea. Still a bargain. There’s a couple listings at 5 near me.




If they go free, I’ll get you a load and bring em to the next gtg.

 

We dont have termites here . But we do get carpenter ants . But , wood pallets last pretty good here which is nice.
The plastic ones will break badly and easily in the cold we get here.

Bottom pic is from today when I bucked it to the customer's stove lengths. I didn't want to do it last night after dark . Which came at around 4:35 pm last night . And , I would have had to file the saw before I started bucking . Ide got in the dirt as I finished bucking the log deck to 100" poles.
This customer wanted 20" wood .

 

Nice load of logs. I'll bet it's nice to be working on frozen ground again rather than the muddy slop you had a few weeks ago. That middle picture with the sun kind of low on the horizon, what time of day is that? Around 10:30AM or so? I know you (all of us) have another month of losing daylight before the sun starts its trek northward again. I've never been up there in the winter yet, but hope to go at some point.

 

The had set when I took that pic . We have around a full hour of twilight before sunrise and after sunset. We are down to 6 hours and 7 minutes of actual sun Up , today.
It was a good day in the woods yesterday. The loggin isnt fast because I baby Little Ox the track loader. But , i got out around 2 cord in 4 hours . Then limbed what needed it , decked , bucked and loaded out . Lashed and got clearance to enter the mine road outbound . Was on the highway, 15 miles away when my 4:45 pm alarm went off . And I hope it is tomorrow.

 

I haven’t posted anything for a while but that doesn’t mean I have been slacking . These are the loads I got today. It’s all red oak, I’d rather cut white but it’ll burn!
