Was out bushwhacking on the ol Honda ATV today. Gotta keep the battery charged and dog amused. One of my pastimes when the leaves are off the trees is bushwhacking, just driving into areas I never see from the trails. Came across these Tulips not far behind my house. Never seen these bunions on a Tulip.

So I decided to take a ride to the other side of our property to complete the collection of oddballs.
Believe this is a Red Maple. Would make some interesting live edge boards I think.

These are maple also. I’ve been watching them for over 20 years. When I first noticed them they were obviously smaller and had tiny branch growths sprouting all over. I wondered if this is what Birdseye Maple starts out as? Still no idea what the lumber would look like.

Ok that Red Maple now has a name. The Totem Pole :)
I mentioned to my sister I’d like to cut that down for lumber. Of course she said that’s her favorite tree,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Must be sumptin in the water there? Pretty cool with the knobs and burls.

Spotted what I think was a willow with with some massive burls in my travels the other day. Of course my eyes should be on the road. Ms. buZZsaw yells at me all the time..."stop looking at trees" when she is a passenger!

I pass that way often and will have to get some pics.

Just past those tulips lay a long dead Sassafras. Driving by I was taken by the grain twist in that small tree. I’ve seen a few twisted trees in my day but this thing looked like a screw. Shoulda snapped a pic but I was wart hunting LOL
