This person's woodyard nirvana...kinda....sorta

Those trees produced some sweet firewood. Will that go into the three year rotation like oak?

 

I'm thinking '26-'27 heating season.

I have some 5yr oak identified for the upcoming season.

I cut and split what was left, yesterday.





This morning, I filled the last rack for a total of 6 stacks, 2 cord.


That should be it for awhile. It'll soon be time to move a rack of wood up to the house deck.

 

Ok, I guess it makes sense to move over to this thread now.

I scored some Red Maple and Locust, probably black.

Oh boy oh boy..

I split the quartered rounds that Truckaa brought me.



It was time to put those splits to bed.




That rack had contained some Ash that was moved to the house deck. Now, RM.

Then I spent time moving rounds around to get them off the leaf-covered lawn. Hoping to mow/mulch tomorrow.

Then RM. Too heavy to stack.




There's a small amount of shorties in that last picture, on a round to the right. They'll be either the top course on the RM rack, or they'll hold the rubbah covering in place.

There's rain in the forecast later this week. Not sure when I'll be able to fill it up.

 

All hand split?

 

Pretty much. A few were noodled.

The big RM rounds will need to be wedge-n-sledged.

 

I took on busting up about 5 RM rounds.

Wedged in half and then let the x27 take over.





It split pretty well once halved. I tossed aside some noodling candidates.

Time for a cup of coffee, Aleve, a shower, and the out to run an errand.

 

Adding up, those should dry pretty quick

Red maple can split like cake or occasionally like elm IME. Looks like you got the cake!

 

Oh look.... the pile has gotten bigger. x27 for perspective.


Only a few rounds of RM are left.

I won't split anymore until I get that pile moved and stacked. I'm pretty sure it'll more than fill that one rack. Probably tomorrow.

 

Splittin up a storm there Mike!

 

We had talked about bark on or off BL and I snapped a pic of a half cord stack. I scored it August of 23 and didn't split til December as it was the biggest I had ever scored. The bark was 2" thick and it all came off prior. Normally I SS bark on BL ASAP. The half cord will go to a customer this season.

 

When I do split the BL, I'll keep the splits not far from where the rounds are now. As racks become empty, I'll move them then. If the bark loosens up, fine. If it doesn't, that's fine too.

 

This time of year it stays tight for a few months.

Thanks Jeff. Not a shed though. LOL!!! Its a stack top covered with Ondura asphalt composition roofing sheets. The stack is four rows, 6' wide and the top cover is 6.5' Perfect size.
