Maybe 2-3...folks want to wait until they're out and it's cold to cry for a load of wood. We do have a cord trailer load to cut soon, though.
That seems like plenty (at least it would be for me) when you have to work deliveries around a full time job. What would you estimate your seasoned inventory to be?
I cut some limb wood that was partially dry and split it to finish a 1/4 cord tote for a customer. It should be going out in the next week. Sent from my motorola edge plus 5G UW (2022) using Tapatalk
I got back in the woods this morning and finally finished up the ash tree I've been working on and also cut the top of a cherry tree I started last year. It was a beautiful day. I split some of the cherry before my plans changed. Sent from my motorola edge plus 5G UW (2022) using Tapatalk
A tree service came by yesterday and dropped a load of chips (16' dump trailer). He told me he would be back with more and then he asked if I would take some pine logs. Said he'd pay me $100 if I took 2 loads. Those were some huge white pines. I moved some of the logs back to storage and will put down more pallets and move the rest. I'll process them after the sap dries. I talked with the lead guy (boss's son) and he told me he would drop more logs here if I could make a few changes to make it easier for his drivers. They've brought me some primo logs in the past so I'm going to make some adjustments to the wood yard. Sent from my motorola edge plus 5G UW (2022) using Tapatalk
I also had a delivery to a repeat customer to finish out the day. He bought 3 loads last winter. I threw all the splits on his trailer and covered them for him. Sent from my motorola edge plus 5G UW (2022) using Tapatalk
You weren't kidding about how fast cottonwood dries. The stuff I cut two months ago is almost ready. I stacked it where it gets decent afternoon sun and good wind exposure. Hopefully I wont need it until a couple months from now. Just have to figure where the stuff from yesterdays score will go.
I have some CW split about 45 days ago that still isn't quite ready. I'm actually surprised. I'm trying to use it up before November. I typically don't mix it with other hardwoods once cold weather arrives. I'm sure you'll find a place to stack the new batch. You always seem to make room!
Weather overall has been superb and firewood has been flying "off the shelves." Here's a recap of last week's sales at the roadside stand: 11 campfire bundles, 1 bag of hickory and 1 bag of apple mini splits, 4 2'x2' loose stacks, 1 hickory and 1 cherry loose stack, 3 2'x3' loose stacks (new size), 3 2'x4' loose stacks, 1 kindling bundle, 2 pack of kindling bags, 3 pack mini bundles, full rack (1/4) cord shorts and uglies all picked up and 1/3 cord of mixed hardwoods delivered. The last 5 weeks have been really strong. Yesterday was my busiest Sunday in history. This isn't Nashville but I'm pretty happy to have one of the busiest roadside stands in America.
Holy wood sales Batman! That's great. Keeps you busy for sure. I sold a 35lb bag of plum nuggets to a four peat customer. Sent him a text and he came Saturday. Couple oak and a hickory bundle too. He asked if I'll be selling smoker wood year round to which I said yes. Do you do smoker wood year round Gary? My 100 bundle guy messaged and was down to two so it went yesterday. I've been nibbling away at having them ready. Have another 60 going tomorrow locally. My assembled reserve is wiped out so later this week I'll get back to doing a few daily to build it up again. Also sold a half cord of nuggets last week to a threepeat and delivered 30 bundles to another local regular. A couple volume regulars called and they may get a half this week. Tis the season
That's definitely a beautiful stack of bundles! I get cranky when I make 12 to put in my stand. 35# of plum nuggets? How many bags did that take? I've never had plum that I know of. Was he specifically looking for plum? I may be ahead in the pear department but now I'll be scrounging for plum! I keep smoking wood out in the stand all year. Sales drop off in the winter here. I presume it's due to colder temps outside. Keep selling my friend!
I'd be thrilled to have 12 cords of seasoned wood! But of course I'm not taking truck/trailer loads out to customers like you. Do you think that will get you through the winter?
How do you determine when to deliver in IBC totes versus tossed (dropped by conveyor) into the dump trailer? Is it just according to the quantity or customer request?
Quantity, a truck load is a tote, a cord load is dump trailer, unless it's the firepit wood for deer camps. Then we load totes on flat bed trailer and deliver. They keep totes until empty, they have roof attached to them.
Delivered that load this morning, then made a call to a friend that asked a week or so ago about a cord load. That was before we decided to sell that 1 big shed. And just like that, another load was delivered, this time to Macon, about 60 miles to his house. We went by Sam's Club while in the big city...
