Vertical = The best way to operate a log splitter. After all, even God preferred vertical and that is why they grow that way. We should do it (split, that is) vertically too.

I don't think anyone has mentioned kindling wood.

How about Pickeroon, hookaroon and peavy. Timberjack.

"codominant" ("co-dom") - a tree that has two or more main leads either right off of the stump or a ways up the trunk of the tree, featuring steep, tight compartmentalized growth that sometimes can be confused as being one trunk. These trees need to be carefully inspected and assessed when cutting and felling, especially when the co-dom is near ground level. Sometimes the face cut alone can completely sever one of the co-doms away from the other resulting a catastrophic situation. We usually tackle those by going up past the compartmentized growth and taking both leads out separately if the situation allows.

"tinder" (not to be confused with the dating app) - fine, dry organic material (usually shredded leaves, grasses, or in our history "noodles") used in a small bundle to ignite the kindling.

"kindling" - small twigs, slivers of wood, shavings or other organic matter that is used on top of tinder for getting your fire going.

"noodling" - the act of ripping billets down with a chainsaw along the grain of the wood.

"noodles" - the long slivers of wood created by the act of ripping billets of wood down with the chainsaw along the grain of the wood. They closely resemble miniature linguini noodles, hence the name....

Kindling: usually small pieces of wood used to kindle a fire.

Pickeroon/hookeroon: A handy tool used for rolling logs, carrying small logs or used as a handy weapon.

Timberjack: One of the more useless tools one can purchase.

Saw chaps: An article of clothing to guard against being cut by chainsaw. Also used widely during warm weather as a substitute for a sauna.

Log splitter: A device for splitting logs into smaller pieces to fit in stoves. Also has been used (not advised) to shorten fingers.

Pole saw. A long pole with a chain saw at the end. It may also be used to strengthen your body and increase your vocabulary.

Bull rope: Used when a tree needs some persuasion for accuracy in felling. Could also be used to lasso bulls but not recommended.

Saw scabbard: A device to cover that sharp chain.

Helmet: A head cover that works better than cloth hats to protect the head.

There's always a method to the 'madness'. I've made a few Humbys mostly just to do them. I don't lay down near enough trees to ever tell anyone one or another way is more betterer. The flat toppers are most impressive to me, but they play with fire according to known safety standards.

'Bar' Not a place to drink. Also not a blade. -Guide for chain to revolve around attached to saw. Not to be confused with Fubar, though they sometimes end up that way.

Fuglies: see uglies above, ugly but burnable wood splits

Blue Smoothies: always a plural thing. eatonpcat likes drinking these by the fire, known to aid in the human torpedo effect and the start of many funny and memorable stories.
