Parents first fire of the season ! Currently 51⁰ and rain showers. It was breezy a bit ago but draft is gone with a few apple and cherry splits with a large holly split for longevity. Dad had the oil furnace taken out barely a month ago, replacing it with a heat pump. When dad naps because I got this thing going, 20251018_182253.jpg

It's 42 outside right now, and I just lit the first fire of the season. It's supposed to get down to 30 overnight and take awhile to warm up to mid 60's tomorrow. So, I figured I'd start a small one to keep a little heat in the house overnight.

Just burning some smaller 2" diameter black locust pieces, and some elm from a recent tree.

I just finished cleaning out ashes from the stove and got it set to light in the morning. Nice to have the work done the night before.

Finally got my wood boiler update project finished. The misses has been very adamant it's cold in the house, but 14 hour work shifts kinda slowed my progress down.

Moved the OWB and ripped out the old cinder block pad I had it on that failed, pulled all the pallets that I used to stack wood on and dug it all out and put in a thick compacted gravel pad.

Just got the boiled filled back up today with water and new chemicals, gave everything a look over and fired it up for the year.

Just topped it off for the night, still about 40° off from temp but tossed in a new filter in the furnace and started it up.

Chooching away with a load of ash and some poplar.

Going to 34 tonight, 60 inside heading to 70.
