I couldn’t wait any long to get out to the woods and do a little cutting. It’s still plenty warm and the ticks are still active but I’ve had my eye on this one a while. A solid white oak that was 16”dhb, right next to my tractor trail and only about 150’ off the road. It had died this summer from oak wilt during a hot dry spell that stressed it more than it could handle. I dropped it on the trail so I didn’t have to worry much with ticks. Very few branches. Ended up with a 39’ straight section for firewood. It just doesn’t get much better than that for me.

Nice! That’s a unicorn score for me. When I get white oak they’ve usually been dead a few years and the bark/sapwood is rotting away.

Sorry it died but what a nice tree! I, myself, love white oak, it is a favorite near the top if not the top. We have a lot of them. Smells heavenly sometimes. Even after stacking, the whole woodyard smells great. Like whiskey I guess. Burns great.

Nice drop on a great tree. Looks like it has already started seasoning.

That sure is a nice find and a perfect sized oak. It gets heavy real fast.

If you harvest a larger tree will you half it to make for easier handling?

Have a long dead blowover WO I need to cut up just into the woods at my storage. Discovered it recently.

That's as perfect as is gets! Right on the trail and straight wood. Our oaks don't grow like that around here.:thumbs::thumbs:

Smells so good when splitting, then the stack leaves that awesome aroma for a while. Great get!
