Just got a $12399 check from State Farm to replace our hail damaged steel cabin roof. There is a $2000 hold back we get when the work is done. I have already contacted two roofers up there that some of our neighbors recommended.

    here we go

On my walk Friday morning as I rounded the corner near the neighbors junk yard I heard a beep beep beep back up alarm.
Down in the hollow was a monster Rock County Highway Dept end-loader working a big red oak that had fallen completely across the road. He pushed it back onto my neighbors property. Sent this pic to my neighbor and I quote “it’s yours and drop the two smaller ones that are damaged”.

Now that is a good neighbor but I take real good care of him at Christmas time. I think I can get 35-40 rounds out of the red and the best part is it’s already on the ground. I will wait for cooler temps.

You are only seeing about 2\3rds of the downed red. She’s a biggun

Up at our cabin was a 32 inch oak stump right next to the driveway. About 6 inches above the soil level. I tried burning it off.

    IMG_5214.jpeg

Was somewhat successful but not perfect. All I want to do is plant some grass. The fire was so hot I was melting the drive!

    IMG_3844.jpeg

So while driving by the Citgo gas station a mile away I spotted this retired USMC guy fueling up his Vermeer. He followed me home and $40 later the stump was gone.

    IMG_3845.jpeg

    I gave him $50 cuz he’s a vet,,,

I planted an Autumn Purple Ash the year we built this house. 1997. Well, it has been in rough shape for many years and I’ve been whittling him down for a couple weeks. I borrowed a power limb saw and mostly finished him off today.

    IMG_5216.jpeg

My neighbor has a monster four wheel drive tractor and he thinks he can pull the stump out. I left it tall to give us a geometric advantage. It is sad most of the Ash bark around here look like this.

    oh well life goes on,,,

Smoking deal! One of my employees runs a side biz doing stump grinding and I know he's much more expensive than that. Especially for a stump that big.

Wife and I finished the ash branch removal this morning. The town board chairman gave me permission to utilize the monster cemetery burn pile across from our house. “As long as you burn it knock yourself out”. I will burn it when we get some snow cover.

I left about 7 feet of stump for pulling leverage.

There is a massive hole in the airspace above our lawn but we’ll get used to it.

    RIP autumn purple ash

Another yard tree will be put on the ground today. My wife planted this in 1997 and thinks it is a Korean Mountain Ash.

    IMG_3849.jpeg

Just waiting for the dew to burn off. I’m not sure what it is but it is full of ash borer holes.

Today was stump grind day. I found a guy in the next township over. The Ash had a 42” stump and he ground down 13” deep and chased some of the bigger roots out. $300. His Carlton rig was very new with only 71 hours on it. He was here almost two hours.

    IMG_3855.jpeg

My Amish neighbor filled my trailer with black dirt from his monster pile. It is filled, seeded, fertilized, strawed, and watered.

Last night a 5 year repeat customer from Madison called to see if I had “coaling” wood. I said yes and it’s dry. She wanted me to send a pic of it which I did. She then asked if I could re split it down to “about 3 inches”. I said yes you’re the lady who comes down in a Toyota Sienna mini van. It takes her two trips to get a face cord back to Madison.

She said this row was split too big for her to carry into her house. (3 to 6 inches)

    IMG_5222.jpeg

So I got it split down smaller and she liked it. She’s coming tomorrow for her first van load.

I hope she gives me one of those Nashville tips! (kidding) She is a sweetheart a retired UW Madison professor and when she stands at her kitchen sink doing dishes she has a view of Camp Randall Stadium,,,

Well what do ya know. I got a tip from the UW Madison retired professor! Not Nashville size. A paper plate double-stacked full of home made chocolate chip cookies! What a sweetheart,,,

It really wasn’t that much extra work. Only took me 45 minutes to re-split to a size she could handle.
