I need to get some new 009 mount (big Husky mount) bars A friend had a new Versa Cut bar on his Echo. I was surprised at how light weight it was .
But, I wonder how long will it last ?

I've not heard too favorable comments on em. I have one in 16" length and it's ok. Most problems seem to come from bore cutting, so if you do a lot of that, steer clear. The tips blow out.

I saw some on Amazon or some other site . And I ran the one on a friend's saw. It was a 20" running fresh 72 ELX chain i was cutting Birch. It cut pretty good. Plenty good enough to make a good days pay. The bar was noticeably lighter than the 009 mount Oregon solid bars that I run on my2172 and 565 sometimes . Bars nowadays seem to be so soft . It's rare to wear out a tip first.
I'll look the Versa Cut bats over some more and maybe try one. But , I do a lot of bore cutting so that will factor into it .
    Thanks !

Try Tsumura light bar. They seem light and the steel is very good. We have the 28".

One thing that is somewhat infuriating is running 3/8 50 Guage chain . I'm thinking strongly that I'll get a loop of 58 ga and see if it will run in one of my wore out bars . I did some figuring and I have over 60 cord on some of my bars

I run and have run 3/8 50 in everything but one small saw and my long bars/mill which have 63. Are you saying that .008 is an issue? I have never experienced any issues, or improvement switching to and fro.

With my wore bars I'm going to see if the inside of the bar rails groove is wore out enough so a 58 gauge chain will run in the bar. If it will , then I will run 58 gauge chains until it's wore out enough to run 63 gauge . It will be a 28 dollar experiment.
Rolling the rails tighter only works for just so long . The inside of the bar groove is wore out pyramid shape . The rails can be closed tight enough to stop the chain . But the cutters can still wander left and right all over the place. I'm going to try to eliviate that wandering . Which leads to sideways running cuts and other weirdness.
