Got another load of scrap metal loaded up to go to the scrapyard tomorrow. Depending on how much I get for this load, I am considering loading up my BBQ and the fuel barrel that I have been considering making a grill from and just buying a new BBQ with that money since I am not finding time to get the project done.
I used to scrap pretty frequently, haven't gone in a while though. Its nice to just collect a pile, and get a nice payday every few weeks or so. My best haul was when my dad's company went paperless with their files. Cleaned out the file cabinet room. I didn't think they weighed that much, but on my way to the scrapyard, I could feel my poor little trailer complaining I wanna say the check when I rolled out was 300 bucks or so. Not bad for a 2k pound trailer and what would fit in a bronco
I don't go much, will only be my second time but I am happy to be getting paid for the space that I am making. Stuff will be fitting a lot better in my garage now!
Good work Grizz, nice to make a few dollars and clean out some needed space. I like that you are gonna buy a grill instead of make one. You are here way too much, take some time for yourself
I do it with my 3 and 6 year old. Trying to teach them money doesn't grow on trees. Mostly just cans we collect from friends and random bits of stuff from around here. Picked up a junker riding mower today to rob some part off of. Going to show them more on disassembly of stuff and sorting different metals. Might make a trailer with the frame and wheels or a motorized wheel barrow thing. Got some other "stuff"( I swear not junk) laying around.*least that's what I tell the wife*
Scrapping is a great way to make quick money. I've been known to pickup up stuff along the road in the past if it was worth it. It amazes me that people actually throw away copper pipes, brass fittings, etc. A typical window ac can bring $30 bucks if you break it down correctly.
I do it too. I'll break open electric motors for the copper and tear down refrigerators and so on.. It pays off if you know what your doing. It's all about precious metals.
I have a neighbor who has a scrap yard and recycle business. I bring them anything I can and they help me out whenever I need something. (Welding/fabricating/moving something too big for my equipment, etc.) They will never take anything for what they do for me. Good people. Just like their parents were.
I bring the computer power cords and other wire from work to the scrapper. The stuff adds up fast. Unfortunately my place stopped taking lead batteries. I think their hauler got busted for for something hazmat related. They paid real well and I have a computer room full of UPSs that makes quite a few.
Love my UPS, got it on the internet box so we can still stuff during a power outage (using tablets, laptops).
I have several piles of scrap metal I keep adding to. I am holding on to it in case I fall on to hard times or I retire.
My UPS gave up the ghost finally. Haven't yet bought another one but may soon. It can be handy to have even for power outages that are short because they will shut down the computer and not lose the work you were doing.
We called them fedrex when I was driving ... We passed them in ditches upside down or flipped on there sides ALL the time! It amazes me how fast those guys try to blow down hills in the mountain's. Then they get mad at the nickname lol.
That's what I'm trying to instill in my kids. There's a lot of ways to make money you just have to look around. Before I had kids I saved ALL my change for hard times. Cashed it in when we bought theggs house we have just to have a little extra in the bank. Had over half a 5 gallon bucket of pennies and the same in "silver" money.
