I'm always guessing as to running them out of gas or not. As soon as I do a neighbor calls and has a tree down or needs help falling a tree. I keep a Redmax 16" ready to go all the time. It's my catch all. Great for limbing and trimming. My name is Mike, and I'm a hoarder. Lopi Endeavor and Republic 1250
I became a Believer in Non-Ethanol gas, since then, I don’t drain/run dry my saws, splitter or generator. Those can sit for six months or more, and I don’t have any problem with them starting. Many years ago, I had a Honda TRX 250R quad, if I didn’t shut off the fuel and run the carburetor dry, if it sat a week or more, it would be a female dog to start. IIRC, that was before I became a Believer in Non-Ethanol gas, probably wouldn’t have been an issue, but I can’t say for sure Doug
I run E free fuel with either PRI-G fuel treatment or Techron powersports fuel treatment. I don't drain or run anything out of fuel for storage. A couple items only get ran once a year without issue.
You’re Welcome, mine was an 86, bought new in 87, with the Red seat and nose My Golden Retriever “Barney” Absolutely Loved riding with me, he would sit in front of me and with my arms around him on the handle bars he did fine for mild riding, and if it got a little more “interesting” he would sit up and push back into my chest to steady himself, I never got too Crazy with him riding with me, but he sure did Enjoy it To keep it saw related, he Knew the difference between a Two Stroke and a Four stroke small engine, I could fire up the garden tractor, and he wouldn’t blink, fire up a Chainsaw, and he was instantly awake from a dead sleep, and come running, and would stand there with a confused expression, looking for the QUAD TRX was Honda’s designation for the FourTrax(quad), IIRC TRC was the designation for the Three Wheelers, and I don’t recall the designation for the Two Smoke Dirt Bikes I sold the QUAD, more than 20 years ago, and Barney has been gone even Longer , Like Mr Bojangles in the song, I still grieve for that dawg, but I still have Great Memories of Both, many of them Together Doug
I have always been in this train of thot and still do to this day. I do keep the one in the truck fueled (Non Etho) at all times. Just the way I was raised I reckon]
Been using just two saws most of this summer. A couple more are about to get back in rotation. I use the can gas in them specifically if I know they are probably going to bed for a while. I don't think the fuel goes sour as fast in the cold months, heat can ruin fuel quickly.
I run non-Ethanol treated with stabil in all of my small engines. Never a problem starting anything since I started that program. My 9000 watt generator started on the second pull last weekend after sitting for about 2.5 years. I drained all the gas out of the tank and dumped it in the zero turn, will use the last of that up this weekend. Refilled the generator with fresh non-ethanol treated with the stabil. I was actually surprised that it started that easy. I was ready for a fight. That is the longest I have ever let anything sit idle with gas in it that I can remember.
