Our campground owner said the health department. Yes health department told him campers are no longer allowed to bring in their own firewood unless certified. Didn't know what what kind if certified they want. I won't buy from him because he'll split oak in April and sell it in June. Anyway anyone know of someone in the the Portage, Stark, Summit county Ohio area that sells certified bulk wood not bundled?
I have to laugh at the government disallowing transport of firewood due to spreading of bugs... *after they already allowed whomever to move those bugs here for commerce. If someone ever asks me for 'papers' regarding my firewood I may have to spend a night in flip flops.
Whats really bad is the ash borer and spotted later fly both come through that area both either got to us. We're in the same county. Camp owner is saying its the township telling him this. I think it's a ploy for him to sell more firewood
Here in NC it's illegal to transport firewood from certain county's into others. I think it's enforced by the nc forest service.
Im guessing they want heat treated wood that kills off any critters that are in it. Last time we camped (pre COVID) the park office was selling bundles/bags of wood that didn't look dry of course. I snuck in some bins of cut up hardwood pallets and scrounge wood from the campground and surrounding areas. One of my favorite camping activities of course!
I think this is the correct answer. A state recognized operator/facility with a kiln/oven, baked to a certain temperature for a designated period of time. Guberment over reach at its best. It’s not a horrible idea, just not very practical.
State campground, private, or all campgrounds? I’d be finding somewhere different to pitch my tent I have found that most often, the “certified” variety offered at the state campgrounds in Michigan is absolute junk! Then again, I would expect nothing less!
Provaye .private camp. And I seasonaly park my 5tj wheel there so its not packing and moving. It would take three days to get everything and I'd have to hire a driver to move that beast
Email the health department and see what they say. if the reply calls out bs print it out and bring your own wood in. When they complain show it to them.
I agree to a certain degree but the states aren't the ones allowing these big ships to enter our ports. That falls on the federal government. The states are only doing what they can to minimize or at least slow the spread of invasive species.
Here’s a link to a thread I started about firewood inspection Firewood inspection kinda got hijacked towards the later part.
