Great stuff for people who like to check the stove often. Last cotton I cut down peed all over my saw. Helped a friend load the last poplar I cut down into his trailer. I had some splits a couple years ago mixed in. I could tell which they were with a blindfold. Feels like Balsa once it's dry.
I labored on Labor day. Didn't feel up to it but forced myself. I headed back for the white walnut and ash. Lots of limb wood on the WW. The ash was alive when cut. No EAB damage. It'll get split in the morning. S'pose I could go back for this gnarly box elder blowover...not.
Yes it will. I did walk up to it looking to see if there was enough straight wood to be worth it to cut. There wasn't. Doesn't like to grow straight does it? If I needed a bit more to topped off the load maybe, but with the truck pretty much filled and my back screaming, I left.

Some of the cottonwood splits from the first load. Split yesterdays load off the truck. Bundle wood quality splits loaded then moved next door and stacked.
One of my tree service “friends” called me a couple of months ago. Wanted to know if I needed wood. I asked him what kind it was, said he thought it was some kind of maple. (Found out, this guy only knows two kinds of wood….pine refers to any conifer, maple is any hardwood.) Anyway, I told him to bring it. He said there was two full loads, and could I bring my dump trailer? Said he would load his and mine both. I told him I was out of town, but he could come get my trailer and load it and drop it off. So I get home and have a big load of cottonwood dumped in the backyard and another big load on my trailer. Got the dumped load cut and commenced to splitting. That stuff was the knarliest, hardest splitting wood I’ve ever dealt with in my life by far….and keep in mind that 90% of what I burn is elm. I ended up with about a cord and a quarter of shredded cottonwood in the stacks. Should make match light kindling for a few years. Took the load on my trailer to the tree dump. I generally like to keep some cottonwood or pine in the stacks to keep the coals burned down, but that stuff was just awful. Reminded me of the big shredded wheat biscuits that mom used to call breakfast cereal. Lol
Middle bay filling up from yesterdays stacking. Couple feet from the top. Ill probably stack the cottonwood in front so itll dry faster. Temporary stack of the some of the cottonwood far left. Currently pulling splits from the right bay. Left bay has an assortment of smoker and primo wood under cover for now.
Moved the rest of the splits and stacked for now. Sunniest spot of the shed (by chance) Stack is 5' x 9.67" so exactly a half cord. Over a cord total with the other load. All processed and mostly stacked. On to the next score Monday.
I swear it will be tight ring old growth top shelf high btu wood, swear it. Does top shelf mean we hang ‘em up high so you really have to reach to get em down? I know just the guy for that.
