For years and years, Mrs MikeInMa's family, has observed Labor day with a sort of clambake - home-made clam chowder(red and white), home-made clam cakes/fritters, steamed clams, corn on the cob, draft beer via a beer ball.

As family members aged and the next generation too busy to carry it on, a day of food and family ceased to be.

So, in honor of her family's observation, we observe it differently.

Chowder and clam cakes from a local restaurant, with local corn on the cob and some coleslaw/cucumbers gets it done.

We Got some fresh corn and potatoes from farmer; some steaks from; for cooking on wood coals
We call it a corn and tater roast.
The next day you fry bacon in cast iron skillet; slice baked potatoes fry them in grease. Called pan fries

problem with my family is the food is snitched before done. So it turns into a buffet around kitchen

The wife and I went kayaking at the lake yesterday. Watched an osprey dive and catch a fish, saw eagles. spent 2 hours on the lake.

Tomorrow is going to be a very atypical Labor Day for us. Tuesday is my older son’s 14th birthday so we’re going to take him out tomorrow evening to Longhorn Steakhouse, a place none of us have ever been to before. Sometimes it’s nice to not have to lift a finger to feed everybody. Usually we do various stuff on the grill at home (clams, ribs, steaks, kebabs, corn on the cob etc.)
