Echos are good saws and durable but definitely not known as the most powerful in their class, gos for ported and modified trim also long as the others got equal treatment.

This is a video of all three brands of pro 50cc saws, ported in the same wood. He owns and ported them all.

Cutting is Cutting, no matter how thick the slices. Lol. The 4910 definitely seemed to pull it the easiest of all three by a small margin. The 550 seemed to struggle the most.

Looked and sounded to me like the 261 either had the rakers ground down or something because it was jumping in the cut.

Could be. I found that vid trying to find 550 vs 4910 / 501P vids that might be of use to the op.

This shows how far behind 50cc echos are out of the box power wise.

its all about a proper port job....the 501 and 4910 are turds!!! stock 550 will completely obliterate a stock501p,after port job...not so much......

It would be nice if echo would update that 20 year old or older saw and bring it up to modern performance standards.

But this doesn’t necessarily work in favor of the echo proponents. If echo is the saw to buy because it’s so much cheaper than the others but you need to port it to get ahead of the others stock is it really cheaper anymore? I agree they’re tough as nails but not as refined as the others all what you want

They respond well to muffler mods and filter base mods according to dyno joes results. That has been my experience as well with Echo. They seem to gain the most from a simple muffler mod compared to other brands. Not sure why they insist on choking them off so much but its a free fix if a guy knows how to turn a wrench. The 501p I had was already muff modded by Brad. It sure didn't run like a stocker, which is a good thing.

Well , i ran Mike Manzo's 4901 for a tree. Well until the yellow jackets ran my off.
He had ported it and modded the muffler .
I fell and bucked a Birch around 11" across the face . I was Very impressed.
It cut the same as a Mastermind 261 I ran last summer . And the 261 had a nice chisel ground chain on it . But , the Echo is much lighter. Very impressive for a saw that weighs the same as my 251.
And to answer the question of will it work with a 24" bar . Yes, it most definitely will .
Would I run a steady diet of it having the bar full of wood. Of course not .
With the Oregon Versa Cut bar the 4910 is pretty amazing for what it will do for how light it is .

Enough oil for the bar? I'm guessing yes since I have mine turned down at 18".

Ready to cut weight is the important part most don't think about. They go off the spec sheets only. When I was looking to buy a new 501 / 4910 vs a 261, I got weights with them full of fluids from a buddy with both saws. The 501 / 4910 is closer to 45cc saw than a 50 just like you felt. Ultimately I stayed with my ported MS241 back then vs buying a 50cc saw.

They feel nice in the hands. At first I thought the ergos were a little short but that was just becasue it was new to me.
