So I have always wanted to see NE USA. There are a couple things that I know I want to see, but there are many things there to see that I do not know about. Wanting to take a 3-4 day look around via my pickup. I for sure want to try to hit some of the Revolutionary sites. I 'd like to see some coast in MA, NH or ME. I like cheese. Probably need to try the pizza up there also. What makes for good clam chowder and where do I find some? For those in the area...where to go, and what to see? I'm not a tourist trap fan but will tolerate for the right venue. I can appreciate nice vistas in parks and the like. Any mountains I can drive up? Besides Niagra, what's going on in upstate NY? I normally travel in fall, but realize I will have to deal with the leafers if I go up there during. Interestingly they are also present in TN from past experiences. I'm not leaving next week or anything, this is my planning stage. Could be end of summer, winter or spring. Prefer the warmer so I can be outside a bit. Accomodations look to be reasonably priced once you get away from metros. Better to do hotels, or cabins? I'm pretty flexible aside from fear of bedbugs, so I usually choose my hotels by how much they charge. Seems like $100-120 & up will beget a clean room. Hoping to get half dozen or so 'to do's' and wing the rest off of those. Oops, almost forgot....important...What to avoid??
Fort Ticonderoga in upstate NY Revolutionary War era. Also Crown Point historic sight. You can drive up and over Mt Mansfield in Vt, but not in Winter on the Notch Road.
Pizza , well as much as I want to tell you to stay out of Ct. If you want pizza New Haven is the place to go. Even a fly by to grab a pizza on the way through might be worth it.
I have heard of this pizza. I want some Krispy Pizza so bad, but I ain't going to NYC or NJ to get any. CT bad? Can you elaborate a little?
WeldrDave I know you can help with sea food; savemoney is knowledgeable about coast of Maine If you going by lake Champlain pm me; From my area go through smugglers notch route 108 theburtman mentioned then to NH and MT Washington (presidential range) need more of your interests to expand
I'm a looky loo. I'm not taking any two wheelers against my better judgement to simplify logistics as this is a smash and grab length trip. lol I like geographical oddities I suppose? (neat natural stuff to see) Like sampling local fare. Also like old stuff like Grist Mills and such, would tour something like that. Am a sucker for the view from any fire tower. Like to hike but won't have a lot of time for it. I don't really need anything to 'keep me busy', just interested in experiences. There does not need to be any Prime Destination...the journey is the destination. If I get into CT, I may try to swing by the Motorcycle Museum in Rockville. I would enjoy strolling through there for sure. You all have any cool amatuer racing leagues or anything that I could watch one evening? (don't matter what they're racing...late models, motorcycles,...lawn mowers...the unusual stuff is the best) I woud like to make it well into Maine...I want to see the north woods up close. Anyone familiar/close to Concord? I have a high interest in seeing the North Bridge with my own eyes. Awfully close to Boston, but I think I might be able to manage.
Honestly it is not that bad but we do have our issues , lets face it all states most likely have something. Congestion , taxes , people who can't drive to save their azzes. You want Krispy then this is the place. New Haven is the pizza capitol so just forget about NJ and NY , sorry guys we have got the best here. LOL
My husband born and raised in Cali had to go to Colo yesterday where we lived for 25 years. He says driving there now is so bad it's like Los Angeles.
Oh I understand. It seems to be bad everywhere. Perhaps if people put down their phones and paid attention that would be a good start but lets face it , so many are just so into themselves or so worried about someone else's business the phone has complete control of their lives. Who cares what color underoo's Kim Kartrashian is wearing any. Way too much social media. It was bad enough when a cell phone was just that " a phone" . Now it is a handheld computer. Now you got me started .LOL
I was just at Scarborough Beach this past weekend. Next time I go I'll have to try it out. Minus the Narragansett LOL
One thing we did while in Boston, a Duck boat tour. Will never forget it, it was really neat. The lobster rolls in that neck of the woods were amazing. Eat as many as you can stand, lol.
We made our visit to Niagara Falls in June on Father's day. Lots and lots of tourist but it was so worth it to see the majesty of the falls. Be a tourist and take the boat to the falls. It is breathtaking. We stayed on the Canadian side and did the tunnel tour behind the falls which starts out right beside the falls so you can look right up at the water coming down. Later walking along the walkway along side the falls, we came to a spot where you can look right down the falls almost to the point where we had been looking up. I think I posted pictures of it on my Eastward thread.
