Here ? We had a few at a rental in the 90's at the Anacraphobia place that we left.... And now we are finding them here. Fine they feed on other spiders, I don't want them in my house.
I too had to Google it as we don't have them up here. I found this statement in the article. wildwest I had a chuckle at the last sentence. However, there is NO VENOM IN THEM. If you're "bitten" by a sun spider (and they can't "sting" you) the only thing that may happen is it may spill some digestive enzymes on the wound, or you could get a secondary infection from scratching it. If you find a sun spider in your home, consider yourself lucky.
lol No Doubt!! It's just not the appearance, the run fast and we've had them gest us before, spooky creepy, you can see their manibles. 91/2' at our Anacraphobia rental, I had the flu, stepped on one in the kitchen and did not know (slippers on carpet), WWW, my boyfriend at the time came in seconds later and another ran out from under the fridge, picked the dead one up and ran back under fridge.
I had to Google also. They look creepy, and up to 8" but at least they are helpful by preying on bugs. It might concern me if they were in the house, as that would suggest there are plenty of insects for them to prey on (maybe those that stay in walls/ceilings, so you don't see them). I'm usually benign about spiders and let them be even if they are in the house (yes, I know, this thing isn't an actual spider). The one's I don't like, I will usually escort out of the house - which is definitely what I would be doing with this thing.
I counted 10 legs on them and thought How can this be a spider? (Thanks bogieb ) Is this the culprit? Definitely would be using some sort of "bug bomb" inside to get rid of these. Sure wouldn't like to have one crawling on me while laying down......
I'd get a spider perimeter spray, it might help. i've used Miss muffetts and it's ok, not great. Of course they say one way to get rid of spiders is to get rid of the food source.
bogieb , fortunately I've only seen them ~1" long, both here and N Colorado. yooperdave , yes, that is it, I usually bug bomb atleast once a year but not this year. I bomb the attic and below the floor, but not the house because our pets and food in here and I don't have to unplug everything. I used to bomb the garage but now I have food staples and chicken chow in out there so I stopped. I'd like that too, just almost impossible here. We don't get very hot here, so all windows and doors are open all summer, and every evening/night when a door gets open there's a bunch of lake hatch attracted to the porch lights that get in, hunker down in a spot on the ceiling which then attracts spiders that attract Wind Scorpions lol. (unless the Wind Scorpions are feeding on the lake hatch too?) Either way after our Anacraphobia rental way back then spiders don't spook us anymore. I'll bug bomb when fall approaches and more try to come in Yes Dave, there spiders did crawl on us in bed at night, that's actually how we ended up buying our 67' Detroiter mobile home, to get out of there lol.
Plan is to bug bomb tomorrow, both attics, plumbing bunker, and either garage or under the house depending on what food packaging I still see in the garage. Even though we're back in a warm spell there's been more spiders the last couple weeks, glad no sun spiders since then. I didn't realize kiddo was already done with summer. She joined tennis so goes to work with WWW everyday now to he can get her to/from practice. She's home tomorrow, so she can climb the step ladder for her attic, and the fold down stairs for main attic, and down the trap door rungs for the plumbing bunker.
