Nice dry and calm day here. Started the fire mid afternoon (still going as I type) and hung out with Ms. buZZsawon the deck. Splitter scrap, buggy wood and framing lumber in the mix. IMG_7779.JPG

A bit more humid today but still comfortable enough to have an outdoor fire. Started mid afternoon and burned til dusk. IMG_7784.JPG

I can't bring myself to burn any splits for outdoor fire. I will use uglies if the pile is not wanting to burn, but never a 'clean' split. Good thing I never seem to run low on uglies.

Mostly cull wood with bug damage that I wont put in normal cordage. Some of it was hickory that I split the bark off for heartwood only in bundles. The rest is lumber scraps, chunks too small for the nugget bin plus the same off the splitter. I use old feed/cat litter bags and fill. Found a few at storage today that I forgot about. I sometimes will have a bag next to the hydro and as I'm splitting i fill it with wood shards.

Same here. I have enough uglies and shorts to have fires at home. Now when I bring wood over for friends, especially if used for barter/ gifts, I'll give normal splits, maybe if less desirable wood, but the splits are better.

Yeah friends/relatives who want free wood seem to get offended when we give them nuglies.:picard:
    They just dont understand! :tree:

Ms buZZsaw's late mother would have a fire now and then. One time I got some nice 2x4 oak and maple pallet scraps and cut them up nice as she liked smaller pieces as she was in her early 80's She later complained that it wasn't shaped like firewood.

Geez, give them a gold bar and they complain its too heavy!

Not exactly a perfect day for the fire as it was more humid than forecasted. Have plenty of scraps to get rid of. IMG_7809.JPG

No fire tonight. It's raining. Expected to do that of and on through the night. I had the burn barrel going last night burning branches so I can process the rounds that I have collected the last couple of weeks. That was ok, but it was so humid that it was uncomfortable. I had to stay to make sure it was still safe and controlled.

Started the firepit for charcoal as we grilled some chicken last night. Ate on the deck so kept it going. IMG_7814.JPG

Smoked a rack of ribs so had the fire going all day. Nice and dry day. Applewood nuggets being preheated on the edge for the smoker. IMG_7838.JPG

With all the recent flooding and insane amounts of rain, the mosquitos are ridiculous. I'll see if we can have a fire tonight shortly. It seems that if you get past the first hour of darkness, that they sometimes go away for the night.

I'll see if that theory works.
