That's Very impressive tree growth ! How long since you fell them to the pics being taken ? Or had they died on the root ? Here our native Aspen grows fast . But not anywhere near as fast as those did . And it rarely gets that big !!!
This is a big agricultural area, we have very fertile soil, and generally pretty good growing conditions. They were dead standing...within a few days they were CSS'd. I ended up getting more from those 2 trees than I thought I would...I need to measure that stack, but I bet I'm north of 3/4 cord total...and that is not including (2) 20" x 20" stumps to CSS yet too.
Yes. Summertime loggin has its challenges. But many parts of it are easier than winter . As long as everything doesn't burn up ! As I've had my ctl at home working on the homestead. The wood loading has all been by hand .
Not the truck or all farwood, but we put Godzilla to work today... First we went to the rock quarry that's about 25 miles from home and got a load for a friend... 3.5 tons crusher run... Then we loaded the Kubota and went to a friend's place in town, he had a bunch of pines, oaks and a couple hickories taken down. Gave us the hardwood logs and paid us to pile the pines in a burn pile... 1st load... Got another load to bring home Thursday
I delivered another white/red oak load to a repeat customer on Tuesday. He’s an oak maniac and will be getting another 2 loads next week, which’ll make 5 loads (1 & 2/3 cords) I’ve brought him this summer. Unfortunately after that I’m out of fully dry oak to sell until next year. Not a huge deal since selling wood is not high priority for me. As long as I have enough personal burning inventory, anything I do manage to sell is a bonus.
This is winter time stove fuel for him. Nice guy, retired high school shop class teacher who really appreciates oak firewood. I sold some white oak a few weeks ago to another guy and almost fainted when he sent me a picture on the 4th of July of a raging bonfire with all that white oak... He then asked for more a week later and was visibly disappointed that I brought him ash the second time. From now on I'm going to ask customers what their burning needs are before loading up. I never want to waste a load like that again for some guy getting s__tfaced in his backyard at night I shouldn't care what someone does with what I sell them but I do...
It would bug me too. Friend of mine I sell BL to will burn it during shoulder season. Either that or oak heartwood!
Yep, we've run into that same thing. Carried someone a load of nice oak, as we were unloading, I asked the son if they had fireplace or insert...he stated it was going in firepit... Told his mom when she came to pay that we had firepit wood that was cheaper...money didn't seem to matter to her...
I wouldn’t want to sell nice wood to just be burned in a pit either. I realize that you get the same money for it, but I value my effort differently than some, and would like to see it valued by the people who are paying for the product.
