Hopefully it doesn’t get too nasty, looks like a pretty large path for the storm warning & several twister warnings.

Yes, weight on top of the utv, so can't get it out. Bad boy mower is under the lean-to that got demolished....can barely see the orange in one pic. Insurance is working good though, tree service and crane are supposed to be here at 0730 this am. The mower and utv look like only minor damage right now, but who knows what will happen once they get started....

I wanted new sheds, but not like this...

Oh, and my splitter is in there by the utv. Looks like minimal damage to that as of now as well.

I'll take pics today and try to make a new thread on it later.

I've been slacking this year. Our summer help crew is smaller than usual and we have even more off site locations so I've been running in circles it seems like. I'll try to be better ;).

Best of luck to everyone located in the "ice belt"!

Winter storm Vern will be bringing near zero temps to us here in the NE. Snow starts Sunday noon-ish through Monday. 18inches +/- forecasted for the area.

I'll take snow over freezing rain.

    Stay safe and warm, FHC'ers!

Stay warm. I've seen snow totals from 6" through 24" so we'll see how that goes but definitely not looking forward to the wind chills to -45 tomorrow. Glad I have plenty of four year old red oak for the wood stove.

Not surprisingly there are people on some of the hiking forums talking about going out tomorrow in the WMNF. Gusts over 100mph are expected on the rockpile with wind chills possibly at -85 (or worse). Entitled idiots that put the lives of F&G and SAR teams at risk.

Hope all those farther south stay safe through the weekend. That potential ice they're calling for is no joke.

Ok rest of country going to figure out what the old timers know..

most insulation is tested at 75° which is:rofl:  because it’s a temp you don’t need insulation
    • Performance Hit: Studies show that when the temperature difference between inside and outside is high (like 70°F inside and -10°F outside), loose-fill fiberglass can lose 35-50% of its rated R-value due to cold air moving through the fibers (convection).

No I am cheap and poor but learned how to read and research .. but thank you :handshake:

Then you got to figure that temperature differential, air carries moisture in closed area that causes mold and rot:headbang:

walt like I said in freeze up thread..

the new thing last few years with govt subsidies was electric heating mini splits.
In cold coming, with power outages, can they keep up? If pipes freeze/burst.. ohh insurance does not cover mold..

Watch changes in insurance next year .. Tells the money secret of the unintended consequences of govt good ideas

    Some storm prep -

Easier to move wood without a foot, at least, of snow to get through.

    Before

    After
    IMG_20260123_090058.jpg

Two wood-dolly loads topped it off. I could have mounded it, but it was enough with some other things to deal with.
