So yesterday between the storms I decided to scrounge and went to 3 different FBM ads. Was definitely worth it! Some of y’all have seen my post about the pear but I also got some dead white oak which half was punky but oh well will post pics of oak later as I forgot to take pics before I split, besides that I also got some maple, cherry, and little bit of pine for the bonfire pit. Thank ya! But I’ve been out of commission on the wood game for around 10 months so it was time to get out there and stock up.:dex:

White oak almost always has some punk in the sapwood unless you get it green. I've had them bad enough that I physically split the sapwood off of some big rounds that were worth it. I don't mind burning it, but it's messy. I have a hair brained scheme to put a knotted wire wheel on one of my trimmers to grind that crap off of good heartwood logs but have not yet attempted.

I have a bunch of 4yo old white oak rounds I never split :emb: that are like that. They were cut green too.

The homeowner cut down a standing dead white oak so that makes sense. I did the same thing and split off sapwood and kept the good stuff. Homeowner has 2 more standing dead oaks to drop I told him to give me a call so fingers crossed
