Found this on Amazon for good price. Less than sharpening. Put one on my Stihl with new bar. Cuts really well all day. I actually found it cut better by just letting the weight of the saw put pressure on the wood. I tend to want to held and push down a bit. In checking the 1 star reviews, there were complaints that they ruined bars. Not seeing evidence of wearing to the bar or sprocket. Anyone familiar with this brand?
John D my hoarder neighbor and I discussed that possibility this morning over coffee. He chewed up a sprocket once, using a low price chain.
Your neighbor is not some guy that doesn’t now better I have only run good chains stihl,Oregon,Carlton and now laser The saying always seems to ring true pay a little more now or a lot later
Sourwood Did you end up pulling the trigger on these chains? I was also looking at 3 packs of 20" loops on Amazon that were advertised as "German steel" and for ~ $47 it's almost tempting. EDIT: According to the manufacturer's website the country of origin is China, made from imported European steel, so there's that to consider...
I might have a use for these. I'm brushing an area where I have to wade into Live Oak and Buck Brush with the 346xp. Chains don't last long before I hit something. At least these won't hurt the pocket as much as I grind away the damage!
I just got a 3-pack of 20", 78 DL for my Redmax G5300. Paid $44 delivered to my door. The first one has cut about 1-1/2 cord of Doug Fir and Ponderosa and is still cutting fast and producing very nice, large chips. I'm happy.
I bought some 8Ten cheap chains from Amazon. Full chisel. Very aggressive in the cut. Cuts faster than a Stihl, also cuts very rough. Never measured yet but I’d say the rakers are set deep for softwoods. Same performance I used to get when I dropped the rakers too low, rough but fast. First chain I made a few cuts in a largish Black Locust log. On the third cut I bucked from the bottom up. Not sure exactly what happened but I threw the chain and four drive links were shredded in the sprocket. I’ve never seen that happen before. Did the drive links just shred allowing the chain to come off or vice versa? Did it stretch that much in the first two cuts and I didn’t notice? It’s possible I guess but I was expecting stretch from a cheap chain. The second chain did well. It’s due for a sharpen just haven’t gotten around to putting it on the grinder yet.
I'm very happy with Dukes chain. I rank it a close second to Stihl chain. I ended up buying two 25ft rolls and the tools to make my own loops. Its the only chain I'm buying going forward except the Stihl 23rs pro chain I run on my .325 saws.
