Speaking of garden, family brought home garden harvest flavored cream chesse on Saturday and I had some on triscuits after they went to bed. Sunday morning I slept in to hear they threw out the cream cheese because they assumed someone at the grocery store ate some and put it back on the shelf :loco:

Looking at possibly making a record high temp today - a record low high that is. Record is currently 51* and forecasters are saying high in 40's for temps. Average high temp is around 70*.

A weak Nor'Easter is making its way to us. Contrary to popular belief, Nor'Easters are a system with certain characteristics, not a type of snow storm. Although snow is possible in higher terrains in a few spots (Monadnocks and white mountains), most of the state will just see wind and rain. Coastal folks are probably thankful that for a change, it isn't during astronomical high tide, so flooding shouldn't be a major issue.

I'm wondering if it's going to be one of those years like a couple years ago when Christmas was warmer than July 4th.

We have a house on the cape reserved for the weekend. Might need longjohns on the beach! Maybe it will mean less traffic….

A poplar came down a couple days ago and the top landed in the road. Some one came along a topped it and left the trunk. I got part of it cut up today and got a trailer load brought home. I will work on getting the rest of it bucked up after I mow the lawn, either this weekend or one day next week. I get another shot in my left eye on Tuesday which brings dusty and dirty work to a halt for a few days. I will post a pick when the wood is blocked up and stacked at home. Should make some good shoulder wood.

Finally got the mower blades sharpened. I usually wait until after a few mows so the dull blades can catch all the rocks and sticks that find their way into the yard over the winter, but the end of May is a bit extreme. They weren't bad though. The idiot who put them on last time (me) really put one of them on tight but the pneumatic impact finally got it loose.

Weekend starts at noon today. I have to move some goat fence, mow the yard, get to a graduation party, then a baseball game. More spraying in the woods tomorrow AM, then another graduation party in the afternoon. Maybe back to the woods in the evening. I need to take advantage of all this cool weather for woods work.

There used to be a company in Colorado that rented them. I used to see that herd of goats all over the northern front range on different properties.

In the last week or so I've seen an ad on a local FB page for someone renting out goats for invasive vine and poison ivy control.

I know the power company used to use them and sheep along the power lines to keep the vegetation down, but they quit doing that some time back because apparently it was more expensive than other methods. Which is too bad, I'd rather see more natural ways used to control such things.

Mi State University once brought in some goats (After all, it is an agriculture school) to keep grass, weeds and brush down in an unused part of the acreage. The workers union fought it and forced the goats out.

When an old man died in the geriatric ward of a nursing home, it was believed that he had nothing left of any value.
Later, when the nurses were going through his meagre possessions, They found this poem. Its quality and content so impressed the staff that copies were made and distributed to every nurse in the hospital.
The old man's sole bequest to posterity has since appeared in the Christmas editions of magazines around the country and appearing in mags for Mental Health. A slide presentation has also been made based on his simple, but eloquent, poem.
And this old man, with nothing left to give to the world, is now the author of this 'anonymous' poem winging across the Internet.
    Cranky Old Man.....
What do you see nurses? . . .. . .What do you see?
What are you thinking .. . when you're looking at me?
    A cranky old man, . . . . . .not very wise,Uncertain of habit .. . . . . . . .. with faraway eyes?
Who dribbles his food .. . ... . . and makes no reply.
When you say in a loud voice . .'I do wish you'd try!'
Who seems not to notice . . .the things that you do.
    And forever is losing . . . . . .. . . A sock or shoe?
Who, resisting or not . . . ... lets you do as you will,
With bathing and feeding . . . .The long day to fill?
Is that what you're thinking?. .Is that what you see?
Then open your eyes, nurse .you're not looking at me.
    I'll tell you who I am . . . . .. As I sit here so still,
As I do at your bidding, .. . . . as I eat at your will.
I'm a small child of Ten . .with a father and mother,
    Brothers and sisters .. . . .. . who love one another
A young boy of Sixteen . . . .. with wings on his feet
    Dreaming that soon now . . .. . . a lover he'll meet.
A groom soon at Twenty . . . ..my heart gives a leap.
    Remembering, the vows .. .. .that I promised to keep.At Twenty-Five, now . . . . .I have young of my own.
Who need me to guide . . . And a secure happy home.
    A man of Thirty . .. . . . . My young now grown fast,
Bound to each other . . .. With ties that should last.
At Forty, my young sons .. .have grown and are gone,
But my woman is beside me . . to see I don't mourn.
At Fifty, once more, .. ...Babies play 'round my knee,
Again, we know children . . . . My loved one and me.
Dark days are upon me . . . . My wife is now dead.
    I look at the future ... . . . . I shudder with dread.
For my young are all rearing .. . . young of their own.
And I think of the years . . . And the love that I've known.
    I'm now an old man . . . . . . .. and nature is cruel.
    It's jest to make old age . . . . . . . look like a fool.
The body, it crumbles .. .. . grace and vigour, depart.
    There is now a stone . . . where I once had a heart.
But inside this old carcass . A young man still dwells,
And now and again . . . . . my battered heart swells
    I remember the joys . . . . .. . I remember the pain.
    And I'm loving and living . . . . . . . life over again.
I think of the years, all too few . . .. gone too fast.
And accept the stark fact . . . that nothing can last.
    So open your eyes, people .. . . . .. . . open and see.
    Not a cranky old man .Look closer . . . . see .. .. . .. .... . ME!!
Remember this poem when you next meet an older person who you might brush aside without looking at the young soul within ... . . .
we will all, one day, be there, too!

brenndatomu I have read that before and it really strikes home. For those older people whose family are gone or have alienated themselves so they are left alone, it can be a sad and bleak future living out the last years without someone remembering who you really are.

Meeting some friends and heading into Ohio for the World of Outlaws Sprint cars tonight. Looks like a great night to watch my favorite form of motorsports.
