An even older gentleman from church asked if I wanted some firewood yesterday. Said he has some 5' lengths and wants to give them away. Limb sized pieces.

Heading to his place this afternoon. :handshake:

Snow reported in MI yesterday. An even larger bunch of snow showed on radar north of the Soo. Cool here but not that cool. 39 this morning.

Well, the smallest town in the country is giving up the ghost.

All four full time residents of Tilt Cove, NL, (yes, it's actually a municipality with a mayor and council) have accepted a relocation package and are all going to move to King's Point, a 90 mile drive away. Although there are other dwellings used on a part time basis, they will soon need generators if they want electricity, as the public power service will be removed from the town when the four full time residents are finished moving.

Once upon a time, Tilt Cove was a fairly large (by rural NL standards) mining community home to more than a thousand people and extracting numerous different minerals. Those days are gone.

This has happened a lot in recent years due to the economy and remote locations of a lot of these towns. Over the past years, we have lived in a few communities that suffered the same fate.

Spent a couple hours fixing all the stuff I tore up on the tractor over the weekend. It had a hard day in the woods and putting in food plots. Bent the exhaust tip, dented the hood, and broke both chains on the tiller flap. I have broken the flimsy factory tiller chains before so this time I replaced them with 3/8". I dare them to break again.

I hurt the mower too, but it just needs a good whoopin with the hammer.

A shame really that these small communities can’t survive. Place looks like a postcard. Must be remote enough to not attract any 2nd home buyers.

I agree, especially those who are remote enough to seem like a time capsule. Unfortunately, when you depend on one industry, you're at the mercy of how well that industry does.
Attracting tourism is their salvation, if they can do it.

That being said, I've noticed a couple communities mark significant growth last census, and they're a couple of the last places you'd expect. Not sure how they managed it, but good for them.

I do know some isolated communities are pretty much surviving because of those jobs which you go away for weeks, And then have a couple weeks home. Also, the age of remote work from home jobs must be a little help.

Got my new rafters started. 4 down, 26 to go. Now that I got my pattern down, and the concentration of the non-reversible end units over with, the rest should be pretty smooth sailing.

I think yooperdave funny comments about me liking wine ( red mostly fwiw, and if you want to get particular, I really like Pinot noir and with Italian food and pizza in particular montepulciano) skewed reality.

Got some potatoes, onions and carrots planted yesterday after tilling the garden once again. Looks like a few more overnights in the 30's here.

Just looked at the forecast....lots of 60's/40's. That's REALLY cool weather for us this time of year. I'm not complaining but very unusual.

It's crazy the amount of new shingles that have to be thrown away because someone royally screwed up a new roof job. :BrianK:
