Anybody have any input on a Champion 34 ton splitter? There is a local preowned splitter available for a good price and I am trying to find out the pros and cons of this machine. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Nothing wrong with Champion, some of the better big box store splitters IMO, I had a 23 ton for years, only sold it to fund my custom splitter build, and the buyer said it has been flawless for him too. I bought it new in 2012 IIRC. Their customer service is pretty good too...I bought a used Champion generator and it needed some work, but I couldn't figure it out, so I called their tech line and they said it needed a control board, which he said was the single most expensive part on the machine...great! Even though I bought it used private sale they sent me the part for free under warranty because he said they knew it was still under warranty by the serial number, didn't matter that I was not the original owner! Color me impressed!
I have a 27T no issues with it in over 5 years aside from a snapped pull cord. The 34T has a bit slower cycle time last I knew.
I’ve seen, but never owned or used a Champion Splitter, BUT, I have a Champion 3,500/4,000 watt generator, that I have probably had for 20 years, and it has been Absolutely Reliable. It hasn’t gotten oil changes and spark plugs as often as it Should, I am OCD about Only using Non-Ethanol gas in it. It can sit for 3-6 months or more between uses, and starts almost every time on the first pull, occasionally on the second. If I have to pull it more than twice, I am checking to make sure that the Kill switch is in “Run”, and/or the fuel valve is turned on. It does get stored inside, out of the weather, but doesn’t get the TLC that it should, and it just keeps running, and Running. With my experience with our generator, I wouldn’t hesitate to buy one of their splitters. A used one, I would look over its general condition, and obviously make sure that it starts easily, and runs smoothly, also if you have a gnarly round or two that you can take with you, that would be a way to check the hydraulic pump for pressure, and the hoses and cylinder for leaks. If it checks out, I personally would buy one Doug
I have a champion 27 ton splitter I only run 90 non ethanol gas and I use star-tron fuel treatment and I have no complaints
