So I was thinking about purchasing a new splitter but the sentimental value of this one is strong. I remember using lawn money and persuading my parents to loan me money to go to farm and fleet in Sturtevant WI and buy the splitter.
It came as a kit, all components in OEM boxes.
    All the memories!!
    Time to upgrade.
Figured I'd start with the pump.
I looked at surplus center and the 22 gpm and the 28 gpm pumps are on backorder.
Anyone recommend another supplier that they like?

Do you know if the 28 gpm is iron or aluminum? $220 vs $500 for the concentric Haldex one that Northern China tool is selling has me wondering.

45 years is a good run! I like that you're willing to put effort into dressing her up instead of discarding and starting anew. I, too, get attached to tools, machines, guns, and vehicles that have given me good service through the years. My '86 Ranger was finally retired from being a daily driver in 2017, mostly because the rust problems finally became overwhelming.

Good luck! Post photos of what you end up doing, if you're able. I always enjoy learning from others' experiences.

Mine was aluminum, most of them are on log splitters made in the last 15-20 years...they seem to hold up pretty well though.
Their pic of the 28 gpm looks pretty similar to the 16 gpm I bought.

I like that older design with the moving head clamped around the I-beam, instead of the trough design that seems so common these days and which includes a LOT of welds.

I'd like to add some height to it (ideas welcome), a log lift, a bit more reservoir capacity, a table area around the wedge, a slip on 4 way wedge and maybe a removable castor / handle assembly on the front. Also as brenndatomu did it will accept multiple prime movers.
Any thoughts, pictures of what you like ect. are welcome.

It's pretty good at finishing the parting of the ways!
That was made when I was in my teens. My dad would get dump trucks of scraps from a pallet manufacturer. With the block You can snap the wood, rather cleanly I might add, rather than cutting it. In fact with my late mom running the handle you could completely disassemble a pallet.
I wish I had saved the press brake attachment. Many brackets were made on it. Also had a vehicle exhaust tube bender, a grape press for a friend's parents wine making. Arbor press attachment. Other stuff to.
We also would play "let's see if it can crush this". Many hours of destruction!!
    Some notable one's...
A large full halon fire extinguisher
    A large regular fire extinguisher
    Many aerosol cans
    Household appliances
    A running lawnmower engine
    A overpressured semi truck tire

    You get the idea!

I've had this stainless grate for over 30 years! Slats are .187"x1" maybe I can make the tables from it.

Maybe I'll make another press plate to slip over the wedge...... Things are pretty indestructible.
