Very intriguing story to follow. Thanks for keeping the updates coming. The parts in there about the emotional responses and connections to a tree is so true. You see it in the admiration we have for the sequoias and redwoods. Or even in the trees we plant and nurture. You don't need some brainiac writing a PhD thesis to understand that.
IF these two truly are the Culprits, I Hope that they are found Guilty, and Hung by the Dangling Portions of their Anatomy. Some may say that it was “Just a Tree, and an Old Stonewall”, but what they did was Deliberate, Intentional and Malicious. There was No Benefit to be gained in doing it, other than to Deprive others of something of Beauty. The Intrinsic Value far outweighed the monetary value. This was something that had to have been thought out, deliberately bring a chainsaw with them, pick a time when they weren’t likely to be caught. Plenty of forethought and preparation went into doing this, and at any point up to actually putting the saw to the tree, they could have walked away, without damage or consequences, but they still did what they did, and for no good reason than to deprive others of something that they neither valued themselves, nor had any right to do what they did. I don’t condone a mother shoplifting to feed hungry children, you can at least Understand why she would do that, but in this case, I can’t see any reason that would justify doing this The consequences Need to serve as a Deterrence for anyone else considering senseless malicious acts Doug
I don't know if the BBC webpage linked below is visible from outside the UK? It will be updated throughout the day with the progress of the trial. Sycamore Gap tree destroyed in 'moronic mission', court told
These 2 idiots are old enough to know better too...might be time to make an example of them for any other inspiring idiots...
Pretty hard for them to deny doing this, if all the details here are true. A$$holes. A senseless act that hurt others just for kicks. No different than the knock-out games street thugs play, and other senseless violence. Hope they get long sentences, but not optimistic. Two men filmed felling of Sycamore Gap tree during ‘mindless’ act, court hears
The evidence presented so far, certainly seems to be compelling that they are the culprits. Hopefully, there will be a proper verdict, and consequences fitting their crimes Doug
