It's Patriots Day weekend. Time for the hummingbird feeders to go out.

Just one for now. This is watchable from the living room. Once I see one, other feeders will be put out.

How soon before you think you'll see one Mike?

She has been chomping at the bit to put ours out. I told her end of the month. Shes HATES the suet splatter that gets the window dirty.

Any day around this weekend, most every year. wouldn’t surprise me if I see one this afternoon, or not until next weekend.

Must have your place on their GPS! :D

IIRC correctly they find out pretty quick too.

I didn't think there were any sightings in NH yet, but according to the tracker there are in the eastern (warmer) part of the state.

    No joke about their GPS.

In the past, the hummingbirds have come to where the feeders have been, except I haven't put them out yet. They'll face the window and hover awhile. I believe they are seeing their reflection. The tail feathers will flare trying to look like the biggest tiny bird.

bogieb - thanks for the migration map! I'll have to poke around that site.

Pecking at their reflection, no doubt.

Fearless things getting that close to the house/window.

The swallows have returned. I observed a pair of them building a nest on a light fixture in back of the house last week. Checked it out and seems they gave up and started a new one over the front door.
Mud and moss litter the front matt. They've built nests there in past, IMG_7196.JPG IMG_7197.JPG

Got home yesterday and the hummingbird feeder has gone up. Woodpeckers have been on it already, but I think this one is woodpecker and bee proof. IMG_7205.JPG

Im making my second coffee and looked up to see a hummingbird at the feeder. Amazes me how fast they find it. Went to get the camera and it was gone when I came back.

Awesome sight. The only"blue" birds we get are bluejays.

I get like a fan-guy when the rare-to-us grossbeak makes an appearance.

Which one Mike? The rose breasted or the evening grossbeak? Our RBG's should be back any day now.

The rose breastfed groessbeak. We're lucky to catch a glimpse of one, once a year.
