Hello Hopefully these twistie moving reflective rods will scare off those wood hole in the house makers! My neighbor said they do work! Just got a 12 pack because they seam to be at all the corners of our house that has primed # 1 cedar shakes primed with Benjamin Moore exterior oil based primer and then a finish top coat of Benjamin Moore exterior water base paint Anyone try them? See pics below. Caught in the act at 10:42 AM!
Alllllllllllllll the trees in your area to peck. Nope, I'm gonna peck here even though I'm not getting any food from it. Annoying.
Pole barn is showing signs of decay.. wasn’t built right over hangs are too short. A pileated wood pecker on a metal roof, uninsulated open area that echoes WILL will wake you up in the morning. Spraying facia with insect repellent, solved the problem
No lots of hornets and ants, I think wood pecker ate a few and thought they were not tasty, He in a couple old trees on tree line.. but much quieter
I drilled holes in about 6 empty water bottle caps, put twine through the holes, reattached caps and hung bottles from fascia to flap in the breeze. It worked.
Hello I had to make an adjustment. The wind blew the rods horizontal and they got hung up on the clips! LOL I know the very slim rubber bands they come with are ideal but I wanted something stronger. Someone mentioned they used fishing line which is very strong and he said it worked quite well. I had some wire type trash bag ties which are also very cheap and strong. So far the rods move in the wind and they seam to work quite well with the safety hooks so they do not blow away. Ace Small White Steel 1.9375 in. So will a crow with a bone on a shingled roof attempting to break the bone open. I swear someone was hitting the side of the house with a hammer...
We had strong wind that blew one of the rods of the safety cup hooks and the pecker flew in and started pecking this morning in the same hole! The safety hook latch is not that strong! Therefore I made another loop and tied it hard to the cup hook so the rod can still sparkle in the breeze and won’t fall off! Then I filled all the holes with high temperature and paintable clear silicone! I filled a couple pecker holes a few years ago with the silicone and they never came back to them! Then I put a rod on the other side of the corner for extra measure! So I have not heard them since.
that is quite the damage that they make. Fortunately we don't have that problem around here. It is starlings getting into open fascia boards on the eves that make a mess.
Every spring the flickers will start drumming on our house. They particularly like a nice piece of metal flashing that really reverberates. Except for the noise I would rather have them beating on that as opposed to destroying some wood siding. I am given to understand that some of the drumming is a territorial display to deter other wood peckers. One bad behavior is when they beat the screen out of the bird block between rafter overhangs in our roof so they can get in and make a nest. During spring I keep an eye out and usually have to go up at least once and staple a patch of 1/4" hardware cloth over a bird block hole that they have beaten out. One year, when they were particularly persistent, the pellet gun came out and put an end to the problem. I will not have them damaging the house!
Hello Well it been a few days now and I am happy to say the woodpecker are gone and the flock of birds in the backyard are all gone. Looks like the woodpecker rods worked and they just moved on to find another place to peck. Thanks for all the comments.
