Had the ring that holds the cylinder bust on Friday. It was welded once but it’s looking like it’s time for a new one altogether. This won’t be cheap I’m sure.
I don't know cylinders at all...it looks like the part that broke can be removed? If this happened to me I'd pull the cylinder and beg for help at the local hydro shop.
Looks like the gland just needs replaced...unless that's some bastard cylinder that part shouldn't be too bad...I'm sure they'll just go ahead and replace the packing/seals while it opened up too. I dunno about now, but 2 years ago I bought the new cylinder for my splitter build for $300 from Rugged Made...it's a 4" x 24" with 2.25" ram and 3/4" ports (faster return) just as a reference point for rebuild/replace. Edit:$350 now now https://ruggedmade.com/log-splitter-cylinder-4-bore-24-stroke-2-25-rod.html
CRCONLINE.COM They make and stock cylinder head caps. If you can match it up looks to be well under 100 bucks. ID, OD and thread size.
$440 (again, just FYI...I'd talk to the local shop about repair first) https://ruggedmade.com/log-splitter-cylinder-5-bore-24-stroke-2-rod.html
Mechanical breakdowns $uck. Never happen at a good time either. Hope its not too expensive and update us as to what gets done.
Not to be that guy but after looking at the pic again that is a pretty poor weld. Good weld it would still be going strong IMO.
I don’t know the first thing about welding but the guy who did it is very well known for quality work. 28 ton ram with high school and college kids running it most of the time. They are hard on stuff.
That's the gland that broke. It screws into the cylinder. One of the local shops should be able to replace it for ya no problem. B&C on 206 could probably fix it. If not, orchard hydraulics down on rt 30.
T.Jeff Veal Yep we're good. That fire was about 20miles north east of us. It's burned around 15k acres. Got a little bit of rain today that will help but it will probably burn for another week or so.
