49 with a feels like 36 breeze. Wood Gun off since about 9am. When burning, it has been a mix of Maple, Cherry, and some Pine. Have been able to run it for a few hours in the evening and a few hours in the morning the last couple days. Hoping to end burning wood soon. We will see what this crazy spring weather brings.
I feel for you guys up North. I'll bet by the time Spring arrives you are truly ready for it. My name is Mike, and I'm a hoarder. Lopi Endeavor
45 and… hey not raining! Cloudy and windy though, so I lit the stove with more aspen. Looks like I’ll be burning for the next couple mornings before getting a few days’ break from that. I doubt the season is over yet but the days are numbered.
Bright sun filled day so far. Melting the snow we got mon night and tue. 20 this morning. Mid 30's now.
43/73 heading for 30 overnight burning maple and cherry. Looking at forecast maybe close to the last fire
We get hard frost every night still. The snow is gone and the yard is dry. T shirt weather during the day. I started filling up the woodshed today. I’m burning poplar and fir.
Wind finally layed down. House felt cool last night so I lit up the stove with odds and ends. My son said probably be last fire for the season as daily temps are headed to 60s more consistent. Im not so sure though. Still have some cool nights and living in a little valley, not much solar gain.
You seem to burn a lot of "lumber cutoffs". What are they and what is the source? I too burn a lot of I guess what you would could consider the same in my insert. 1"+ thick boards, various widths, 12-20" long from a pallet mill. 90% is oak. Great for fall and spring time fires, all season really.
There is a high end wooden toy factory about 12 miles from my house. Scraps are free, first come first served. Maple, oak, and pine board ends. There is a place about half a mile from it that makes panels for panelised house construction. Framing lumber cutoffs of various sizes. I use this stuff in shoulder season and during very cold times mixed with the good stuff. I go by these places about once a week and between the 2 places I usually come home with something. Maybe half a pickup load or just a couple trash cans full.
31/73 spruce. Spring is on the way, sun is getting some bite and we are down to knee deep snow in woods.
