At the cabin most of last week cutting firewood. The forestry boys cut down some hazard trees along the road last fall which included about a 10’ diameter Yellow Birch that was lying down over a bank. I pulled it out with the truck and cut it up right on the road. Never really processed YB other than little stuff for campfires. Good looking wood and it split easy. Charts say BTU about like Red oak.
Can’t wait (but will) to burn it!

:jaw: :bug: Gotta be some kind of record for a yellow birch.

Yes, great firewood. Don't score it often, but will take it when available.

All kidding aside, some nice wood there.

Good dense firewood there. For me it burns best mixed with some hotter burning species like ash or red maple. It does last quite a while in the firebox. I wish I came across it more often, but it's definitely a treat whenever I can acquire some.

Yellow Birch is awesome wood, beautiful looking to if you happen to get a big one with decently straight grain to run through a mill. My second most burned wood here, yeah very close to red oak.
