Off to figure out plan B.

Took the dog out this morning and little squirrel ran out from underneath the pallets my hay is on in my leaner. Unfortunately the dog was on a leash or I’d say he’d of had a chance of getting her.

Went out to the barn this afternoon, a mouse ran across one of the band boards. I’m assuming a squirrel has chewed through my foam insulation, and dug underneath the bottom band board. Hopefully there isn’t a nest in the soffit in my barn. Going to check this weekend.

Left a present for said squirrel in the hole it made, hopefully that takes care of the problem. If not, I think I might have to find a barn cat.

My previous home had things in the crawl space, I bought an electric rat trap. Zaps them when they go in for the bait. I don't see the brand I had anymore, guess they got bought out. Worked well, caught a squirrel in it once.

The term “if you didn’t have any bad luck, you wouldn’t have any luck at all”. That applies to me.

Went to and cut some wood, and was going to find my squirrel a new home afterwards. Went into the barn, she’s back up in the soffit, and out of the trap. I checked the door on the trap, and it doesn’t open when I pull it up after it’s closed. Nicknaming her Sherry the Houdini Squirrel.

There’s three rat traps up in the soffit baited with peanut butter. I’ll check them tomorrow.

Lesson learned, if you catch something find it a new home or take it to the train station ASAP.

Have the same type of trap. Years ago, at the old place, I caught a squirrel. They would go to the train station once they were caught.

I got a phone call from 99 lbs-she said there's a squirrel in the trap. I'm on the way home and will take care of it once I get there wa my reply.

I got home to an empty trap..........what happened?

"Oh, I let it go" :headbang::headbang:  :rofl:

I think that was the last squirrel "we" caught!

Caught another squirrel yesterday and it go out of the trap too. The door isn't centered on the trap, so they are able to slip through the side with the bigger gap. This time I was walking away from checking my OWB and I noticed it was out of the trap, so I ran over there to try and keep it in the trap with a piece of firewood. The squirrel ended up jumping on me and then took off and ran up a tree. Had to work yesterday so I couldn't relocate it as soon as I caught it, it has been relocated though.

One dug through five or six inches of 304's to get into the barn. That put me over the edge last Friday on trying to figure out the why. My assumption is, they could smell the nuts that were in the soffitt.

    IMG_6054.jpeg

The why. They had all of the soffit corners packed full of nuts and nests. Between all four corner soffits I probably pulled out almost a five gallon bucket of nuts, grass, and roof felt. Luckily the worst two corners I could easily access from my leaner. One more squirrel committed suicide too.

I've also stepped up my door crack barricading game too. I had some stuff cobbled together, now I have a 2x8 covering the gap under one door, and 2x6 in front of the other door. Due to the slope of my barn, and my stock trailer I need to leave a gap under the door or the back of the stock trailer will scrape when I back it in. Knock on wood, no squirrels since last Friday.
