High winds and maybe tornado overnight. Just a mile south of us there is a lot of power out. Don5t even see limbs down on our road. Rained through the day, so no outside work done.

Fred Flintstone was right about one thing. Contractors can be real tyrants.

We call them "stormers". They drive into places with hail damage, don't do a great job a lot of times and go back to wherever they're from.

Storm chasers is another term I've heard, among others.

Yes there are honest contractors, but man I've heard and seen some real horror stories, especially with roofing. Maybe it's something about the nature of the job, and how easy it it for screw ups to be overlooked by the uneducated, perhaps more so than many other trades. Electrical is another example, and even more dangerous.

That's the one thing I'll have to hire someone for, when I replace my whole electrical system, right to the mast. I can't do that myself.

Only 2 years huh? I've been here since 98 and have been on/off chasing an intermittent leak most of that time.
The previous owner added a front entryway on and tied the rooflines together in a strange way that makes things difficult.
I had the whole roof replaced about 15 years ago because the main roof was older (but not leaking) and my thought was surely the leak could best be dealt with if it was all redone at once...yeah, but I hired the wrong person to do it (a family member that talks a good game, but turns out doesn't really have the skills/character to back it up)
I finally took a stab at a repair myself and it has more or less worked for several years now, even though I originally was just trying to "make it to spring"...it just recently leaked again but I was able to make a modification that seems to be successful...guess I need to pony up and have a pro look at it again sometime soon, but the two quotes I got last time were ouchy :makeitrain" :(

Yep, we had one the previous owner could never find, WWW finally found it like 10 years later after we bought it, over 20' away peak with a verticle part. Then we had the laundry room resided and roofed. Now we have a new freezing cold wind leak :picard:

I thought I had a roof leak a couple of years ago and couldn't figure it out. I had the standing seam roof put on in 2014, so it should have been good.

I craweled up in the attic (and looked kept looking for wet spots, but couldn't find any. There is no plumbing up there. Finally, after going up there 3 times (the access is thru a 3x4 closet and with a short hip roof with timbers everywhere, good thing I'm not overweight!), I found the "leak". The old air handler was sweating up a storm and the plastic drip pan underneath it had developed a crack at one corner and that was leaking.

Of course that happened right after I had painted the living room ceiling so it has a small stain there., The good news was that the leak occurred while I was using the heck out of the LR pellet stove so it dried up well once I repaired the crack.

Add me to the growing list of members with the chronic roof leak.

That old cottage I had sure did like to play tricks on me! I ended up buying a bucket of tar and applying it to just about every seam on the roof!

Truly is amazing just how far water will migrate under the roofing before it ends up in the living space.
