Delivered a half cord to a new customer this afternoon. I spied this stack of fruit wood that turned out to be apple. He cut it down himself last Spring. Since I've now started selling apple wood to smokers and being hard to come by for me, I offered to trade him dry wood for it. He agreed. Guy isn't fussy and just have to figure what I will give him. Same volume of course. IMG_6047.JPG

Hey Brad, did you ever end up selling off the fruit wood to smokers in your area?

I started last Summer with FBM ads for smoker wood. Several sales and a couple repeats. Nothing gang busters but much more profit than if general cordage or in bundles. Just sold four bundles of apple to a guy a couple weeks ago. $40 sale.
    Apple
    Pear
    Sugar maple
    Cherry
    Hickory
    Mulberry
White oak (more for pizza ovens)

And I still haven't traded for this yet. A score of nice apple back in the Fall postponed it.

Your post reminds me of my beginnings. $1 dollar permit to cut all the apple I wanted. Acres and acres of orchards bulldozed over. What a ton of work that was. I went gang busters and ended up with 16 cords.

Yeah apple definitely doesn't generate cordage fast that's for sure. I cut in an orchard once back in 2020 IIRC and for the amount of work I didn't get much. Even drove right up to them too.

Oh that smell though. It’s awesome. Apple and cherry are easily my favorite woods to smoke meats with.

What a racket...selling wet wood by the pound! You don't want smoker wood too dry, right?

Do yall chip or split that smoker wood to size, or left to the individual to cut to size?
Apple must me fun to make smaller . .
