The storm from a couple weeks ago knocked down some more roadside standing dead oaks near my work. I cut a couple loads of a double stem red oak between yesterday and today. This is all getting donated to my uncle for his winter 2025-2026 burning supply.

This was scrounged from my coworker friend’s area about 40 minutes from home. I’m not finding much ash like this anymore, anywhere. With any luck the rest will still be there whenever I go back (and take a saw with me next time…)

Nice work! That's a couple of days worth of heat. Hopefully the rest is still there and you can saw and snag it. Those are not small pieces, probably heavier than most people would want to deal with.

I used to keep an eye out for my buddy who burned, But he retired and headed south to Tennessee. There used to be a bunch of trees over on 179 last fall. but I think they are mostly gone now. The power company came through and thinned a bunch of maple-oak and a few dead ash across from Windcrest Drive.

I got this right off route 179 on Wright Road. My coworker friend lives in that neighborhood and gave me a heads up when the town took down these roadside dead ash last week. I was heading up there this morning anyway to give him back some ice fishing gear that I borrowed, so it just kind of worked out.

Is all that wood as dry as it looks or frozen solid? We’ve had both of those types of weather lately LOL

It's wet for the most part. Should be ready to burn by next winter though. I'm kind of in a frenzy right now trying to scrounge dead ash and red maple, to replenish my own ready to burn stash for next winter. I sold a lot more than I anticipated this year.

Yeah once you start selling it makes the three year plan a bit harder. Next year we’ll be burning some four year old stuff but after that,,,,,,hasn’t been cut yet so it’ll be two years by the time I burn it. It’ll be all dead oak and locust tho, two years is enough for that IMO. They’re seasoned, just need to dry.
