    Dumb question for ya. I’ve never had a top loader. They don’t smoke at all while cooking or loading?

    Ours has a huge door that spills smoke, so we top load almost exclusively. Hardly any smoke if you open the back when loading.

    I have owned a medium size pot belly stove and have made a number of upright barrel stoves. I did all the loading from the top and it is amazing how little smoke escapes! Once the barrel stoves are going well you could very well put a grate over the open top door and cook a steak. Only cooking smells, no smoke! Love the brats!
