Ear piercing screech from bypass handle (Any lubricant?)

Ok, let's get this out of the way, I love my Blaze King 40!

One "issue" I had since day one is, when you open the bypass door handle, you get the most God awful, fingernail biting, ear piercing screech I've ever heard. It's guaranteed to wake up the new grandbaby taking a nap. If it's 5:00 am. and I want to add some wood, it's the morning wakeup call to anyone sleeping in the house.

I have tried different lubricants on the moving parts of the bypass door, and even tried getting some in the hole the rod passes through. Problem is, it was useless or short lived.

Has anyone experienced this and found a likely solution to this problem? The high stove temps obviously pose a problem to a lot of lubricants.

When I had my Hearthstone Heritage, the movement on the bypass handle was absolutely silent, literally nothing.

Open to any suggestions.

 

Someone will be along with the solution soon...I don't recall what it is, but I feel like I've seen this discussed before, more than once.

I've never operated a BK stove, but it has to be a metal on metal caused sound, like any other stove, right?

 

Correct. When you rotate the bypass handle, the sound is ear piercing. Definitely metal on metal.

Might try cycling the handle for/aft several times to clean the interference surfaces.
Otherwise, copper anti seize is all I've had limited success with. Briefly. At a max requirement of one cycle per 12 hrs I've not pursued a better remedy!
I've thought about trying the powdered graphite. Might be worth a shot? Dunno

Ok, appreciate the input. It gets cycled several times a day, but been like this despite everything I've tried a high temp lubricant made by Perma Tex, and it worked the best for about a week. Problem is, it's MESSY! And then, it hardens and gets pretty crusty.

 

I didn't realize you could get that. Would it have the spray tube like you'd get on a can of WD 40? If so, that might get in there. It's tight to reach, and only a small gap to try and spray in.

 

It has a little red hose usually.

The dry graphite comes in a squeeze bottle and any decent hardware should have it...hobby shops too (if there are any of those left!)
You gotta watch where you spray that graphite spray lube, when it dries it's about like grey paint...and if using internally I'd think it could poison the cat?
You can get high temp never seize...it's nickel based, good for 2500*F

 

I have used dry graphite. No oil no hardening.
Not sure how long it lasts (or burns up).

I would be similarly careful about the cat with nickel or copper based stuff.

Bought a can of dry graphite spray today. Tried to spray it into the tube that the handle rod runs through. Just not enough space to really get it in there. I wanted to upload a video of it, but haven't figured out how to do it yet.

 

Anything you apply is on the downwind side of the Cat. Wouldn't get da panties in a bunch over trying something. Dry graphite makes me remember my Pinewood Derby days in scouts. Just recently tossed my winners trophy. Sad indeed!
