Had some oak logs delivered the other day to top off my stacks. Started bucking and spitting. It is a little under the 3-4 cords promised but I'm still happy. Probably will be just under 3 when split and stacked.

Another two loads of logs today. Being the "half fast" wood processor that I am this should keep me busy for a couple weeks. I got hooked up with a guy that has a lay back yard about a half mile from my house and they said they would bring me all the oak I can handle for basically taking care of the guys delivering it. I gave the guys $200 and they will be bringing more when I call for it. All oak and one piece of cherry, nothing looks rotten.

What a nice set up! Trees, shade when it gets hot, flat land, open space. You got it all!

So are those considered "cull logs"?
    If so, any idea why?

I'm not sure what cull logs are to be honest. The tree guy basically told me I'm doing him a favor by being so close and taking the wood. Otherwise, he said it costs him to get rid of it. They do sell split firewood but from what I saw they don't have a processor, just a Huskee splitter similar to mine.

cull logs _ too many knots , splits , not straight enough, damage, short of 101" , that covers most of it. mills can be somewhat picky. I was told a couple days ago that the paper mills here abouts(WI) are taking anything they can get there hands on.

cull logs _ to many knots , splits, external damage, internal damage, not straight enough short of 101" ect. Mills can be picky. I was told a few days ago that the paper mills in my area are taking dang near anything they can get their hands on including hardwoods like Oak and such. That is unusual as they prefer big leaf and softwoods mostly.

I started bucking up today and these are mostly under 101" but only one log has crotches so I don't see much waste turning it into firewood. So it probably is culled, I was curious as to why the lengths were on the shorter side.

I'm fairly certain it's not all oak after bucking. I'll be starting another "what wood is this" after I take some pics and start splitting. Two of the bigger diameter logs have spalting that I've never seen in any oak I've had. And it didn't have that oak smell to it plus the growth rings are kind of wide for oak.
