Hey gang, trying to locate and find a bolt that secures this gas tank to the splitter. Not really sure of the terminology so my searches are wild in results. It's a powertek brand and their website is crap for parts unless I am missing something.

Long story short, I borrow the splitter from time to time from my brother in law. Was using it before winter set in and noticed the gas tank vibrating immensely. Closer inspection revealed a few of the bolts were missing and only one remained.

Someone else had it before me and came to me this way as I checked my property like crazy for the missing bolts. I am sure I can rig it with another bolt but its kind of tricky with that neck portion that fits into a plastic opening on the lower part of the tank making it secure. Using a regular bolt of same size (M6-1.00x16) Finding exact match would be the best bet. Thanks in advance!

That’s called a shoulder bolt, made so that the threads can tighten and hold (usually!) while the smooth shoulder acts as a spacer so the plastic it passes through isn’t crushed.

If you can’t find bolts of correct dimensions easily, you can make do with a regular bolt of the correct length and thread, and washers under the head over tubing cut to the same length as the shoulder on the original bolt, so that it serves the same purpose as the shoulder. Good hardware stores (not Lowe’s or Home Depot) usually have a good selection of stainless steel or brass tubing. Hobby shops often do, too.

    Good luck!

Now that you know it’s called a shoulder bolt, plug in the specs into your search. Should probably get plenty of hits.

could just make a sleeve of the correct dia and length and use a standard bolt. saves trying to find something unique to the unit.

The major difference with these are that they don't have the flange under the hex like your original one. In that case you could use a washer, but then you'd need a longer shoulder...

Go to your local Honda (Yamaha and Kawasaki uses them too) shop...they use the heck outta that exact bolt, on everything (ATVs, motorcycles, cars, OPE, etc) a half decent parts guy will go in the back and come back with your bolts...heck, I think I still have some in my bolt stash.
If not, go to your local hardware store, one that still has bulk hardware (ACE is usually still good for this, Lowes is ok sometimes too) and get flanged head 6mm x 1.0 bolts, and some barrel spacers, like these
