Raining since 2AM here. Am hoping it rains enough to wash away the snow we got initially which is now slush as once this goes by it's supposed to get cold again. Gonna be a goopy frozen mess for a long time if we don't get enough rain.

About 4” of snow overnight, then rain most of the day today. Lots of ice on the trees and bent over branches. Tree branches are breaking sporadically sounding like gunshots. I saw the power company doing emergency trimming over the lines earlier. The power has been out here at the house for about an hour. The generator is keeping the refrigerator and chest freezer running. I have some canned vegetables and mozzarella sticks heating up on the wood stove, and once they’re far enough along I’ll throw some steaks on the grill. Almost like fun :) By midnight tonight the temperature is going to plummet and all this slush will become a glacier.

They are "multi terrain" according to Camso, the manufacturer. The problem is the "cog" that drives the track is about 12" diameter. I'm sure that's because of the available space and other reasons but the result is a drastically reduced final drive ratio. Picture driving around on only your wheels compared to the normal 27'' +/- height of tires and wheels.
In short, your travel speed is highly reduced. We have plenty of fun @ 7-10 mph, but it's definitely not comparable to a snowmobile.
Heat, glass, doors and a bench seat for 3 is the price. On a sportier machine, you could probably rip around much faster, but we're not trying to get someplace as much as enjoying the time in the woods in the snow. It's a completely different scene and visibility than when everything is green not to mention the increased ground clearance and traction.
There's lots of track stuff on YouTube.

Do they offer a hovercraft or airboat option? That might work better than even the tracks right now....

The electrical contractor had a canopy set up over the door to the control room, Sunday morning thunderstorms relocated it... 20250216_145101.jpg

We received 18” of snow .. opened drive
40+ mph wind put 5 foot drifts in 1/4 mile drive
Which is seriously uphill both ways

but this isn’t considered severe weather

    o_O :bug: :jaw:

That'd be past severe weather for these here parts!

Our forecast for tomorrow is still bouncing around. Looks like we'll get somewhere between 1 inch and 15 inches....

we were in 6-8 inch range and some sleet
Ended up with 18” wish we had some moisture to put a crust on it because the drifts are Impressive! Above back tires on Bota

They just forgot to put the "1" in front...

They really make me...anxious isn't the right word, but whatever...when the are this 'undecided' and bouncy on the forecast. That usually isn't good for us. (Realizing it's not good anywhere, but we tend to get hammered and people aren't prepared, or ice...) Everyone still talks about years ago when they said we were going to get a dusting, and we ended up getting about 2 feet....

We're having a winter that we haven't seen in several years.

Frozen ponds and a lasting snow pack.
