I think it becomes flooring. I see oak logs going up the NY thruway on flatbed rigs with Canadian plates from time to time. I presume they delivered finished product are back hauling the logs.
That's a dream come true. When he said mark the ones you want. I would have taken the picture and circled the entire pile and handed it back to him. "There, those are the ones I want".
Split the rest Thursday despite the sloppy wet conditions. Stacked what I could. Not fun but got it done. The bundle splits will get moved today before the storm.
I’ve always been curious about the economics of this. My wife and I often see trucks from Quebec going up 91 with loads of logs. It must work out to send a truck out of Canada, into New England, pick up wood and haul it back.
Yes. Has a full firewood processor. Drop in a log, machine cuts, splits and conveyors it to a mound while the operator stands/sits in a cab. He takes all the telephone pole trunks. I have no complaints with the cord I processed so far.
No logging around here, too cold for me. I also agree with those who feel firewood is too much work to just sell it, so I give a little here and there away. I know, what a fool I am.
You're right Brad, When Lefty was with us he would sell some of what we split and I would get 50% of the cash. I leave some totes of split out there so his widow can still sell some so she has a little spending cash. I stopped taking 50% over a year ago. I gave some premium wood to a Deputy Sheriff a couple months ago and he was insisting on paying so I told him to give whatever to Bunny.
Every time I try to get out to cut wood around here seems like the dang wind is howling at 30+ mph & with the low temperatures it takes the fun right out of it. Can’t keep my fingers & toes warm anymore.
I don't know how you do it under those conditions Joe. Even in my prime I had low tolerance for the heat. Maybe this Summer I'll have a chance to buck for an extended period and see how I do. The fact I still think I'm 2-30 years younger.
